Katmai National Park is one of the premier bear viewing sites in the world. Every year brown bears come to the famous Brooks Falls to feed on salmon and prepare for winter. We set out to spend two days there camping in an electric fence and seeing more bears than we could count. It was one of the most special national park experiences I have had and let me know what you think in the comments.

A great video. I watch the live cams during the summer. I am familiar with some of the bears, 747, Bucky, Grazier and of course King Otis. This is one of the most amazing places. I love to watch the coys in the spring, coy- cub of the year. I love the chats with Mike Fitz and the rangers during the cam season. I have learned so much about bears. It was snowing the other day on the cam and there was just enough power to run the solar panels. The bears will be in hibernation very soon if not already. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Super Awesome to see this and relive our experience at Katmai a year back. We went there in August end (also known as end of season) so there were less crowd and no timer system. Worked well for us because we did the day trip float plane trip from anchorage and ended up spending all our time at the viewing deck , even skipped the lunch at the lodge for it. This reminds me to go there again and try to do the Valley of 10000 smokes too. Great video !

It is what it is and I am glad that I did get to go no matter what as a lot of people planning to visit Katmai did not see a single bear or the day trip tours got cancelled so it could have been worse. I’ve read that some years the salmon run is delayed so just hoping Mother Nature cooperates with us as we’ll be visiting the first week of July. Would you recommend camping for two nights if you’re able to get a reservation or was a single night enough? Also, did you happen to rent the camping gear from Anchorage? Sorry for all the questions! :)
