With the ruse of AI we have to ask if there will ever be one Assuming the world doesn't explode and our extinction is caused by other factors, if a single AI survives and an alien race came and used it to generate really anything, it could be said that's still humanity's doing, that's our technology trained on our works of art Ethics if AI aside it's an interesting thought on how AI could allow humanity to truly survive in a way till the end of time, we take a computer with a generative AI and throw it into space there is always that chance it gets used again by some alien race this assumes we're not alone in this galaxy but the odds of that are slim, sure we haven't found alien life, but the galaxy is really fucking big and we've only seen a small fraction of it

@@flamingscar5263 that’s if our computers live long enough. Nothing is permanent and will be worn down. If left in space long enough the bombardment of stray heavy atoms will eventually cause enough singular events to permanently alter or damage computing systems onboard, and if left on Earth it’s subject to erosion. All this is to say that we didn’t just lose this singular bird, we lost a genus. They disappeared bit by bit from a large mass, eventually forming small puddles until the last drop dried out. Should we live on through memes (the actual definition not the haha funny memes) the last one to carry them will be the last drop, but hundreds of extinctions will play out before then.

@@isaackellogg3493this recording is from the 1970’s, in the description. Sadly humans being the giant c****s they can be, made this set of birds extinct among countless others. It genuinely makes my chest hurt just thinking of what I’d do to all the overly privileged freaks this world currently has, and the utter pain id lovingly put them through 😂 oh they’d be screaming as I had this song going on in my head. Too many don’t appreciate nature despite all the greatness it can bring.

@@jesseroberts1041 human beings and/or hurricanes made the birds extinct. The population was about 34 in 1970. It takes very little c***y behavior to destroy a population that small. That’s to the point where a stiff breeze would wipe them out, and a hurricane is a VERY stiff breeze. There were two hurricanes right on top of each other, and then they were gone. TL;DR, not all environmental disasters blamed on man are caused by man. I mind a letter to the editor about twenty years ago when, on a nature hike, a fifth-grade girl noticed a river choked by leaves and sat down to write an essay on how evil humans were destroying the environment, to the point that it was possible that _leaves could fall into the river_ . Ninety percent of all the species that have ever existed are extinct, and “not by the hand of man did they fall.”

There could be still a chance not everyone died. Isn't like the one animal humanity though it's completely dead but then they found some of them a few years later?

Possible, but unlikely, not to mention this species was deemed extinct almost forty years ago now and no new sightings have been recorded

The birds are also monogamous and mate for life, so any one that dies leaves their partner with no means of breeding.

Yeah, 1987 wasn’t the actual first year it was declared extinct. It was first thought to have died out in the 50s before being rediscovered in the 60s. But since it has been almost 40 years the last time we saw and heared of the bird it’s most definitely not with us anymore.

Such a nice song, be a shame if something bad were to happen to the entire genus.

only if people knew how to bring 'o'o and confuciusornis back, they have such good calls, luckily there are starlings, but these 2 birds sound better

Why it sounds different from what we hear in most of the videos of this bird ? Or its the audio quality from that time? Im still looking for the original audio from 1987,it sounds modified to make it sound more dramatic. 😅
