I've had my KLX250S long enough now that I think I can give a fair review of it. In this video I cover the engine, fuel consumption, suspension, things I don't like and things I like.
Thanks for watching. If you like what I'm doing, hit that like button and subscribe.

My first real offroad bike besides big ADV was an 18 KLX250 in that blacked out camo. Hands down was my favorite bike ever. Affordable, best looking, super smooth throttle/controls, great suspension. With zero experience i took that thing places i wouldnt take my enduro bikes now. 13t sprocket was the best mod for dual sport, FMF, airbox off, EJK was expensive but did give u more low end. Knowing what I know now, 13/42t was too high i should have went with a 45t aluminum rear and Mx chain and that bike would be great. I might actually buy another one and sell my enduro bike cuz it was so fun to explore backroads, desert, then single track

Thanks this my kind of video. Would a smart carb or some kind of carb swap make it more snappy. I am wondering how often the new klx 300 will need valve jobs or a new top end? Thanks for showing us your bike. It is pretty awesome.

I just saw the edited questions. You can change the jetting to make it a little more snappy, but I wouldn't bother changing the carb. If you're getting that that point, you might as well spend the money on something with some more power. Top ends you pretty much never have to do on KLX250/300's, people are getting 100,000kms (60000 miles) out of a top end. Valves, I'd double check but from memory it was every 12000kms (7500 miles)

What's the difference between S model and the regular klx250? I am looking at a few of these but I think they're all the regular model... couple 2015"s $3500 usd 4360 + 6000 miles and a 2018 $4000 usd 612 miles... which would be the best choice? Enjoyed your review 👍

Thanks mate. In those year models they are the same bike, just some people drop the S. If you are in the USA, the 2018 model onwards had fuel injection. I would definitely get a fuel injected model as the carburetted models like mine were very finicky. I had countless problems with my fueling in varying conditions

Hello Curtis. I had a 2009 KLX250 that I bought brand new in California. I was shocked when I heard you could only do 70mph top speed as mine did 90mph both to and from work. I sold it years ago so I’m not sure if it was a 250S, plus I had a 2 brothers slip on muffler.

Info that may be pertinent - I've probably done about 20hrs total on things from pitbikes through to a SM610 with very onroad biased dualsport tyres (in muddy conditions around a lake. We shall talk no more of this). I'm 5'9", 105kg and my style is slow speed trail riding. At least for now. Cheers!

@@mechtechau thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it. As a starting bike, the KLX250 is fantastic. Hell, I'm still enjoying it on a ride with Husqy 701's, Bmw's and Tenere's and I've had all sorts of bikes. If you are starting off, all the bikes you mentioned are great. If I had a choice... probably the DRZ. It weighs the same, it has more power and will last you longer. It also depends on what you can get for what price!
@mechtechau
@mechtechau 3 жыл бұрын
@@onthebackwheel thanks for the insight mate. I was thinking the DRZ mainly because of parts/aftermarket and the power angle. It's a pity it's taken Kawasaki and Honda so long (esp Honda) to move to 300cc. I was looking at SWM but that's a damned tall bike. I'm selling my 16 YZ250 which is difficult to climb and it's shorter then the SWM 300/500. 😂
@onthebackwheel

@onthebackwheel
@onthebackwheel Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure which country you are in (Australia has a lot of dual sports), but none of the small displacements are what I'd call torquey. With mods (exhaust, opened airbox, shorter gearing and tune) the KLX250S can be punchy, but you might have to step up to the to the DRZ400 for more torque
