Back in 1975 that was sold as the Z400 in the UK and was a replacement for the two stroke KH400 triple. Problem was nobody saw it as such. It was slow, heavy and had reliability/build quality issues. The press all hated it and so did most potential buyers especially when you could buy the likes of the RD400 for much the same money. You never see them around these days but I guess if you keep something long enough eventually someone will think it's a classic. Looking forward to the videos though.

1pz has a nice allen bolt set that replaces the phillips head bolts if you really wanted to make it nicer. Also, it makes the bike easier to work on since you're less likely to strip the heads vs the phillips.

Hey Cody, I love your videos and was surprised to find this most recent one on the KZ400. I have two of these bikes, and I'm currently working on a '79 KZ400 H with a '76 model waiting in the wings, and you are exactly right, these are a bit of a pita to work on because there's pretty close to Nothing out there for them! They cover a range of years and each and every one has a different part number for the same part, so there's a lot of confusion as to what will and will not work, or any slight differences - like the gasket you referenced - that preclude their use. There's more info and parts out there though for the '76 than even the '79; it's like the Kawasaki engineers decided to put together a bike at the end of the day with all the scraps they had laying around. I didn't see a link for any top-end work you might be doing - is there one up yet? PM me if you'd like, I'd really like to speak with you about this bike.

If you buy a Barnett clutch and you don't buy the steels along with the friction plates, that is on you. You get the option.

This was a carp(sp) engine. The cam chain wore rapidly and chewed up the sprocket ground directly into the crankshaft. Balance weights were also prone to failing and trashing the engine. The 750 was no better. Just get the 650 four or a Honda four.

Great video. 9Vs is definitely dead. : ) Speaking of batteries, Is there an acceptable amount of parasitic draw on a battery? I just put a modern reg/rec on my vintage Triumph and it's created a half a milliamp draw on the battery. I'm not sure if that's enough to worry about. I hate having any parasitic draw on an old bike like that...it's not like it has an ECU or a digital clock to keep time on it. It's very basic as far as electronics.

@daveco1270
@daveco1270 2 жыл бұрын
@@paule.maurice1521 do you mean put a simple on/off switch between the battery and the reg/rec unit? It's really just one wire (the red wire from the reg/rec) that's causing the drain. I was thinking about putting a bullet connector on that wire so I can easily unplug it when I'm not riding.

Mr Cody, I'm a Honda guy too however my lil brother has a 01 zrx1200r kwaka after 50 miles the clutch slips. All is new except clean and rebuild the master cylinder. The slave cylinder was full of stuff. Any way still slipping around 50 miles. Will be doing master tomoro. What gives oh knowledgeable one?
