Had red and white 1985 from brand new put 60k miles in 5 yrs never broke one part and she lived at redline. First fully faired 600 4 valve water cooled four on the market. Was fastest 600 in its day and the looks are perfect. Great bike

I had the EU version GPZ600R, 1985 model black/red. It was my first 4 stroke bike, had a Suzuki 125 GT and later a Yamaha RD 350LC before, both 2 strokes. The GPZ was nice , comfortable and safe albeit somewhat slow. Good starter bike.

Was my very first bike... with 28k miles. Worked on it more than i rode it lol. bought for 600, sold for 600.

I bought one in 1986 when I was stationed in Pearl Harbor years ago. Wish I never sold it. I had it custom painted in Pearl Green and white. Good memories.

I still own this same model, same color. Purchased it in early '91 when no one cared about them or wanted them anymore. Sadly, they have a well known reputation for the valve seats moving in the head, causing the valve adjustment to change so much, that the valves are held open. Then they are difficult, or impossible to start. This situation can sometimes happen during just one ride. One minute it's an easy to start, cold or hot, reliable bike, and the next time it cranks and cranks and either will eventually light and run, or won't start at all. I believe Kawasaki cured the issue on the later models. Mine still suffers from the issue, because I haven't removed the head and taken it to a machine shop for repair. They're also set up very lean running, especially the California models, making them very cold blooded, and they'll have a lean "lag" when the throttle is initially twisted. Larger diameter jets, a mixture adjustment, and balancing of the carbs will transform performance so much, that it's like owning a 750. Love mine dearly, and it still puts a huge smile on my face. Nice job on your restoration. I secretly wish you'd left the frame, handle bars, and top of the triple tree silver, but it's still super nice looking. If you want it to run better cold, rotate the idle adjustment knob, located on the left side, just below the left-most carburetor (that narrow red body panel is sort of in the way of the knob) "clockwise" (if you were facing the knob) to increase the idle. It'll run smooth, and as it warms up and the idle becomes too high, you can reach down, and adjust it back to where it's smooth. Then you don't have to sit there racking the throttle on a cold engine, and it won't keep chugging and dying. Once you know where that sweet spot is, you can walk up, give the knob a 1/2 or 3/4 turn, and hit the starter, applying choke as needed.

Great job...I do think it looks more modern with the black frame...but I'm a purist and wouldve kept it in silver....this was my first bike back in 90.

Beautiful bike, but man get your carbs cleaned and synched. The moment it gets into idle it only runs on three, or even just two cylinders.

..would like to know how you got it and am willing to but it.? or trade ?

It looks like new but the idle doesn't sound very good. Definitely needs some tuning.
