Trying out the Kawasaki Quickshifter (KQS). Very happy with the smoothness of the gear changes. You just have to shift in the best range. Shifting up between 6000-7000 RPM and shifting down (auto-blip) works well between 4000-5000 RPM.
Caution: It is addictive! :)

I've just bought one of these! That noise is addictive to me. Even a Honda V4 doesn't quite do it. And triples or twins? Too lumpy for my tastes. I just love a straight-inline 4.. Peoples opinions may vary of course, and that's their right. Doesn't mean they are right or I am right. Imagine a circle with this Kwak induction noise at the centre, now draw a circle around that noise. Everyone will sit a different point on that circle and have a different viewpoint. The trick is just enjoy your viewpoint and don't try and force it on others. And vice versa. Personally I love that sound, just love it. I watched it a few times. Top work mate.

Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, even though the factory pipe sounds pretty tame, I just love the howl of the induction! Maybe it sounds better inside the helmet than outside but you're right, it's a personal thing. Congrats on your purchase, hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 👍🏼

Gday mate. I just bought a new Versys 1000 2 weeks ago. The KQS light is factory set at 4750rpm for the 1st 1000km. What rpm do you recommend changing it to after the 1st service? Or can it be set to anything, and be used anytime above about 3000rpm to be smooth?

G'day mate. Great purchase, I think you'll be super happy with your new bike! I found the smoothest to be above 6000 rpm going up in gears 3-4-5-6 and 4000-4500 going down. If I change up lower than 5500rpm on my bike, I notice more of a clunk which apparently isn't that good on your gearbox so I have set my light to flash at 6000rpm. Some riders report having to have their gearboxes repaired after about 30,000 kms if they use the KQS frequently at lower rpm's or in lower gears. I don't use the KQS around town, only for sporty "spirited" riding on the highway. I'm still learning though. Safe riding!

How do you like and enjoy your bike? Why did you upgrade from the 650 to 1000?

Thanks for your questions. I enjoy the 1000 very much. In Australia you can only buy a restricted power version of the 650 so wanted more power and at 6'1" I am more comfortable on the 1000. I'm currently making a video of the pros and cons of the 1000.

I have the Versys x300, and am considering either the 650 or 1000. Two very different bikes, I imagine.

@@juliemcgillivray3394 if you're ok with moving a heavy bike (255kg/560lb) around and you're doing longer distances, definitely the 1000. Much higher price but a lot more gadgets and technology. Cruise control is awesome to have and I love the induction sound of the butter smooth four cylinder. Still has a snatchy throttle but not as bad as the 650!! Plus you have riding modes...Plus Quickshifter up and down! 😁

When you have two bikes, and the other one does not have a quickshifter, getting into the habit of not using the clutch is a very bad thing. I have the quickshifter turned off on my Versys. Besides, it's a touring bike, not a track bike.

I don't use mine all the time, just every now and again for fun. You can't use the KQS at lower speeds anyway as you can damage the gearbox using it in lower rpm's. Some people do take theirs to the track to improve their riding skill and the KQS adds another dimension if you choose. No tracks near me unfortunately!

@t make sure chain tension is correct and change the oil often. Makes a big difference in smoothness for the kawa QS.

@@Nyezagreed! Been changing oil about every 3000 miles and can tell when the chain tension needs to be tightened because the QS gets a little sloppy.

I took a different approach-I sold my non-QS bikes and got a second one with QS because I got to like it so much on the big Versys.
