Hey John, just a quick question - you mentioned doing the throttle body balance without the airbox on next time ...would you still need to connect the hoses and electrics and hang it over the side or do you mean remove it altogether - just wondered how that would affect the reading on the carbtune. I watch all your video's to do the maintenance on my Versys, great channel - thank you.
@ozarksbackroads5484

Good to hear from you sir. To do the sync with the air box removed all that is necessary to have plugged in is the air charge sensor located on the back side of the lower air box. It is the only sensor that is screwed into the air box. just remove the screw and the sensor and plug it back into its connector. Be sure to remove the negative cable from the battery before you un plug anything and leave it disconnected until all sensors are plugged back in. You never want to connect or disconnect a sensor while the battery cables are connected to the battery. Just remove the negative cable and you will be good. None of the hoses that are unplugged from the breather housing need to be plugged, they will be fine, they are all just vent lines. Once you have the air charge sensor plugged back into its connector you can connect the battery cable and sync the throttle bodies. Be sure to unhook the battery cable again before replacing the air box when you are done with the sync.. Good luck sir and thanks for watching.... :)

At 8,000 miles, what did those sparkplug look like and why change them so early? Iridium plugs in my cars easily run over 50,000 miles and when checked, the gaps are still within spec. Did yours look in spec when you removed them?

Nice video as usual! Couple of questions for you: What windshield are you running? Also, have you given any thought to deleting the charcoal canister for the fuel tank overflow, and replacing it with an old school drain hose? Also, can you tell me which of the hoses going into the airbox is for the PAIR/Air Injection system? Thanks!

What year is this bike that you do oil change on? You mention burping the filter for oil pressure. Is that on all Versys 1000's? I have a 2015 that needs an oil change. I am doing it and want to make sure to burp it if I need to
@ozarksbackroads5484
@ozarksbackroads5484 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there sir, yes the Versys 1000 will need to have the air let out of the oil system when you change the oil filter in order to pick up oil and build pressure immediately. The red oil light will go out on start up when the engine has acquired oil pressure. Just loosen the oil filter off a bit and start the engine. As soon as you see a bit of oil start to seep out of the filter at the gasket tighten down the filter and you should have oil pressure. Thanks for watching and good luck with all of your projects... :)

@@ozarksbackroads5484 I have never seen an engine require this unless it had something wrong with the oil pump, pickup screen, etc. If it takes more than 5 seconds for the oil like to go out on startup after a filter change, something is wrong with that engine in particular (assembly issue) or with the oil system design (engineering issue). I have read on forums that a number of these engines seem to have this issue while others seems to not have it which makes me lean towards an assembly issue on a series of engines rather than a design issue, but who knows?

Every time i've pre-filled the oil filter before installing, i get oil pressure issues and have to burp it. When i don't pre-fill it picks up the oil just fine. If you pre-fill filter you'll have to burp it.. If you don't, no need to burp. Thats my experience with oil changes on my 19 vk1000 se lt+

Just as a side note for anyone needing to replace a front brake light switch on a 19 vk1000 se lt+: the end of the cable is on the right side of the bike behind the radiator hose. Why didn't you just clean the old plugs at that mileage, they have barely done any work and are good for tens of thousands of more miles. Your air filter was fine to, a a few bugs can be tapped out but at that mileage it couldn't of needed throwing away and would of been perfectly serviceable. We really do live in a throwaway society.
