Hey Guys, Out working on the meanstreak today. When i bought the bike one of the first things i noticed was how notchy the steering felt. So today i am going to rectify the issue by replacing the head bearings
Bearings i used: AB221031

Just about to do this to my Meanie, bought all the "all balls racing" bits, but now need to spend $40 on a 36mm socket!! Never mind, got quoted $700 from bike shop to do this job...I'll also do fork seals and oil. EXCELLENT video thank you, I'll be watching this a few more times so I'm comfortable doing it. Thank You Moto Dans for another quality how-to vid. You should do this full time, you're a natural!

FANTASTIC video. Just bought mine and it had the same steering head issue. I looked at a bunch of generic videos for how to do this, but having this video for our specific bike is much better. You used many of the "tricks" I've seen others use, but all in your 1 video. Great to see how to do it without a bunch of special tools. I don't have the large hexagonal tool you used to loosen the axel or the tool you used to slide over the forks to seat the bearings, but some have used parts of the old bearings to do that so I'll give that a try. I'll be changing out my handlebars and brake lines, so I'll disconnect them to make things a bit easier, but your video even shows how to do the job without disconnect so much stuff. GREAT JOB!!!!

That's for watching. Yes you can use an on bearing to push on the new one. Tip for doing that is cut a small slice with a thing grinding disc out of it so it doesn't get stuck when bashing it on. You could probably do it without removing the front wheel but would be way easier if you could get a hex to fit the axle. Not sure where mine came from it came with the bike in the tool kit whether that is original or the previous owner put it there I am unsure

After 10 videos you had what I wanted. Really fucking tight is about what the book says, or 55 pounds. Then back it off. I wasnt going tight enough. Worst case its quick and easy to do if after 100 kms it is loose. Thanks

Just ordered a mustang seat. For my bike was only really 2 choices the mustang or a corbin. Liked the look of the mustang and found it on sale in a bike shop in the states. Should come in at just under $1000. Corbin was going to be around $1800.

Awesome. I have no idea they are not branded and were on the bike when bought. Not overly big around 17litres per side and they are just throw overs

Looks at bike… damn… I should probably change mine out. 06 and probably still original. Also, you should get a load of the bolts on my bike. I don’t know who the previous owner was, but I’m sure damned well keeping the bolt factory in business. I used to like Allen key bolts. Now I shudder if it’s a part I haven’t worked on yet.
@MOTODANS
@MOTODANS Жыл бұрын
Depending on kms and condition they may not need to be changed. Definitely would need to be greased though. That's always scary when you see random non factory bolts around the place
@voltairedecent255
@voltairedecent255 Жыл бұрын
@@MOTODANS oh, they were all factory as far as I could tell. But some had stripped heads and were a nightmare to get out. Some were so unnecessarily tight, I ended up stripping a few of them. I actually use a dab of copper coat on the bolts now before I put them back in. It keeps them from freezing/locking up. (I got fed up paying $6/bolt)

If that bike has a fresh warrant of fitness from a testing station you need to inform the testing station of the fault that they missed during The inspection Because they are liable for the cost of repair because They said it was good but is not but had a ball joint come apart on my truck many years ago two weeks after an inspection I had it repaired at my own expense On the next inspection at the testing station six months later another inspection I told the inspector what happened he said I should’ve informed them at the time as they would’ve had to pay for the repair as they said it was good I was very fortunate Truck was a twin steer truck so only one wheel went astray The other three wheels held their alignment save me from very serious accident

@@MOTODANS I see, very useful video. I go back to your channel often when i'm at Repco to buy the same stuff you do haha, that Penrite oil is bloody expensive Is the DR just not sufficient for 2up? (or more so not enjoyable) My partner is coming back to NZ and was hoping to do some camping trips with her on the back
@MOTODANS
@MOTODANS 3 жыл бұрын
Only buy it when it's on offer was $34 from super cheap 2 weeks ago so I bought a few same oil I run in the dr. Just keep an eye out for specials even if your not needing it just stock pile it. But if the oil you buy meets the specs required it will be all good. It is ok depends where you want to go. Me and Danni are both around the 65kg mark so quite small people. It does the job depends on your luggage as well as the seat isn't that big for 2 people. In my opinion it is to small and underpowered for 2 up and Danni doesn't like being on the back of it. But it depends on you guys people go 2 up round the world on 250cc bikes.

@@MOTODANS Damn $34!! I think I paid $87 :( We are both about 65kg as well we did 3000kms over Vietnam last year on a Crf150 but to be honest after the 1st week it was not very enjoyable, thought the 650 would suffice. I guess we will just have to suck it and see.. Do you guys get much time off over Christmas? Any rides planned?
@MOTODANS
@MOTODANS 3 жыл бұрын
@@ckenealy8 Just keep an eye for specials! Wow, you might find the Dr to be fine for your needs then. We are used to big cc bikes for 2 up bmw gs and the like so the Dr just doesn't do it for me in that regard but we didn't buy it for that. We just have the stat days off planning on heading down to dunedin on the bike but the weather is looking terrible😭 What about yourself?
