My first bike was a 2005 Vulcan 1500 Classic fi. I’ve had it for about 16 years and it has been incredible. Long trips, short runs to local places, only thing I ever felt would be an improvement is if it had a 6th gear. Very few times I can remember but that’s it. Everything else this bike is has been an absolute gem.

I hope you're kidding about this even being considered as a first bike. I've been riding all my life with a 25 year break in the middle. I'm 55 now and just got a 2004 Vulcan 1500 Classic and it scares the shit out of me on first impressions.

i got my vulcan 1500 classic in march this year, first bike i´ve ever owned and ridden, i am comfortable as can be on it :D True about the brakes tho, gotta press em quite a bit :P

I wonder if the brake pads / disk are glazed on the bike you are riding? I have a 1998 with the single disk on the front and my brakes work fine!

I am a brand new rider and purchased a 2002 1500 Classic. It is my first bike and is a little intimidating. I rode a Yamaha 250 supplied by the MSF during a 2 day course, and it was nothing like this. I bought this bike before I even took the 2 day course and got my license. After somehow passing the road test, and getting my license, I thought there is no way in hell I am ready to take out that beast by myself. I waited for my son and rode with him to get my feet wet. I have nothing to compare the VN 1500 with, aside from the MSF Yamaha 250, but I love my bike.

Had an 88 Vulcan and the brakes were superb I would suggest you have a problem with Pads/disc etc

I have that Exxxact same very nice cool black & red color combination VN 1500 year model 1999 and Yep, I do oh-ou agree what he said about brakes too as specially that rear "brake" is very lousy. :-/ :-D But otherways my darrling is great behemoth of a bike, just now in mid-October 2023 finishing my 2nd about 6 months driving season on it here in (too arctic :-/ :-D ) Finland! Been enjoying driving on it totally 19000 kms in two years and my longest trip so far was on summer 2022 all the way to Norway and back (going down also that veery twisty And scenic Trollstigen-road part on it hah!) Big Cheeers to you (other VN drivers), from not-so-uncl Vo' ym 1968. :-)

What do you recommend me? What advice? It's my first long trip. It is approximately 1300 miles of travel on state highway

I see the infamous speedo wire is still as weak as always^^^, Bought mine with a broken wire and replaced it, wire broke again, didn`t bother to fix it. Traded it for a ZRX1200R last spring. I do miss the sound and ride though, so much so that I`m looking for a VN2000. Enjoy whatever the ride and all your journeys! Edit: How is going into second gear on that? Mine felt like it had rocks in the box.

I went from a street bike to a cruiser. Peg hit the floor turning . Whole bike wipe out under my feet. Scary af. Those bike can't take turns at all! I suggest a street bike if you got a good back. Lol
