Hey guys, be careful when doing it this way to make sure not to damage the gas line from the gas pump underneath the left hand side of the gas tank. ALSO, if you remove the center console (easy to do) it will make the fluid input much easier to access. 1 more step there, but it wont stress the wiring too. Thanks, good job!

Out of focus, poor audio, camera shakes and erratic and poor script preparation. Waste of time. Read the repair manual.

thats good advice . also its makes life EZ if just take the tank off , one screw for console and two connectors { console and fuel pump} NOTE- if tank is full pump it out makes putting that back on easier also safety and you can check out other things while the tank is off like wiring and stuff safe riding and look out for each other

Great video! One thing I like to do when swapping my coolant, to avoid having coolant get all over your hands when removing the drain bolt. Remove the drain bolt first (coolant won't flow out) then open the radiator cap and watch it flow 🤙

Thanks for the video. Needed to see how to access the mouth of the radiator and I didn't have my manual.. TIP: For pouring the coolant in that tight space without a hose to the funnel, when you open the coolant container, don't remove the seal.. Make a tiny hole (1 to 2 mm) with a clean screwdriver on the side of the seal you want to pour out from and another tiny hole (preferably same size) diagonally across it so the container can breathe while it's contents pours out.. You will be able to control the flow very smoothly (it won't go glug glug) and won't risk getting the coolant spill all over like it did in the video.. I didn't even need a buddy to help pouring it this way and did so without spilling a single drop.. It might help the next time..

We pretty much followed the maintenance manual. It does not indicate to remove the thermostat housing just to pour the coolant in slow to allow air to escape. Also we did run the engine, for quite a while. Service manual says to run it until the fan kicks on which we did and took about 10 minutes. If the radiator were low on coolant it would pull it from the reservoir, otherwise what would be the point of the reservoir. I went out and checked and the coolant level did drop a little since then but was still well over the lower level line but i topped it off.

Never use a Dexcool or compatible. With this stuff, only 2 years tops really. Much better to use a modern Asian coolant (pink or blue is fine, they're the same) or global like Zerex G05.

I have a question about fasteners on metric bikes. I own a Harley but am looking for a Kawasaki Vulcan to be my everyday rider. On Harleys, all fasteners have to have lock tite on them. Do metric bike fasteners need lock tite too?
@tonyceci8237
@tonyceci8237 3 жыл бұрын
They may put that in the book for Harley cause the bikes vibrate so much i think the engine is gonna fall out of half of them lmao!! The only place i have used lock tight blue is on the bar risers i put on but havent needed to do much to the bike. runs like a champ. Bet you love the vulcan especially considering price difference, various models from 650 to 1700

Thank you! That is like the oil question or the 87 v 91 gas question, You can ask to 20 people and get 20 different answers. the 50/50 is supposed to be good for all engines and i have had no problems using it, i think all green is but dont quote me on that.
@rfel87
@rfel87 3 жыл бұрын
Use motorsports/motorcycle coolant. If you search for it you'll see its not the same ones you'd find at auto parts stores for cars. Motorcycle coolant can be green blue or pink. But they're made to prevent mineralization, scaling and water spots inside the cooling system. Don't just use prestone 50/50 but you can use a 50/50 premix motorcycle coolant
@rfel87
@rfel87 3 жыл бұрын
@@tonyceci8237 I'm going to have to disagree with you about the oil question. The oil lubricates and keeps the clutch cool. Whereas in a car you're engine oil keeps the engine lubed and trans fluid does so for the clutch. So there's different additives made for motorcycle parts within its oil than vehicle engine oil. I wouldn't just casually use the oil or coolant as interchangeable but that's me. Hope it holds up. I have a 2010 900 custom btw.

@jmdsouza Жыл бұрын
Engine Ice I hear works best on motorcycles & ATVs. You need to completely flush out your old coolant however before changing a brand and/or type. Else you risk chemical reaction especially at high operating temperature. To flush the system use a 50/50 mix of distilled water (absolutely no tap or bottled drinking water as it'll contain way too many minerals etc.) and distilled white vinegar. The vinegar has enough acid to soak up and wash away any gunk. Run the engine for a few minutes until the fan turns on then stop the engine. Wait to cool down and drain out this mixture. Do another flush this time with only distilled water and repeat the above step.. Drain out completely before filling it with Engine Ice.

First time around for me so watching all the videos that I can find. This one is pretty good but, cameraman needs a little more practice but, it worked. Thanks mucho. Would rather a dealer did this as I'm 79 but, cheaper if I do it, probably my last time around. Love the Vulcan. Hello Friend. If air got into the cooling system, it doesn't matter. After you fill in the coolant and close all the plugs, let the motorcycle engine run. Then open the lid of the small tank and the excess air will go away. Don't forget to close the lid later. Good luck.

You don't have to use the K brand. Flush the radiator and reservoir thoroughly before changing brand though as you don't want to risk unwanted reaction from mixing brands enen though it's a residual amount after draining. Best to flush with distilled water and 50% distilled white vinegar once and then flush with distilled water only to remove any residue.. (run engine until fan turns on each time you flush)... Then top it with new coolant of another brand or type..
