Kawasaki Z900RS - Five things that annoy me. The Z900RS is darn near perfect, but there are some minor annoyances I have come across.

I really enjoyed watching this ChopperFett. Reason being is it's my dream bike as well. Its looks are a huge draw for me and your Fireball color, candy tone green & yellow, and the SE Yellow Ball are my favorites. You bring up great points on minor flaws, which I feel all bikes have so no biggie. I've actually read a few complaint threads on this bike trying to talk myself out of buying one so I'm not broke-er and so the wife doesn't get mad-er. The reoccurring trends I read are snatchy throttle - some say it's the rider some say its the ecu mapping, transmission a bit clunky (mostly down shifting), bike runs hot (seems debated buy different riders), engine randomly just cutting out mid-ride(did not see this one a lot, but more than once), the paint on the tank scratches easily like its not very clear coated, frame has some premature rust, Dunlop stock tires not so great and their little niblets aka valve stems too (news outlet sources advise Z900rs Valve Stem Engineer 'Sum Yun Fool' is still missing... I wonder why 🤔), and that's it for the memorable posts I saw. I know these are knit picky, it's just to me this bike is kind of expensive and after all the fees tacked on I feel these short comings 'Are not the way and Kawasaki doesn't care ' This all said I still read about waaaay more happy Z900rs owners than not. My other worry is I'm no mechanic. So if something breaks on a super bike its gonna be 💰👈 vs say my modest cb500x. I'd definitely want a center stand as well. I think T-Rex Racing makes an adjustable stand for this bike. Might be worth looking into if your foot keeps bumping it. That would bother me as well. And please, no one reading this take any of this as an insult. I'm a big fan of this bike otherwise I'd not be here posting anything. Like if I just had coin laying around I'd have one already. I look forward to watching your updates and how you feel about the bike once you've had it longer. My main question once you've had it a while will be did the Z900rs live up to your dream bike expectations? Or fall short... like the niblets. Thanks for sharing 👍

This might be one of the longest comments and I appreciate that. To answer the question at the end, this is 100% everything I thought it would be. I would suggest hunt the used market. I found this 2018 with 300 miles on it for 8000. That makes everything a bit more justifiable. I’ll have a video in a few weeks of everything I love about the bike which may end up persuading you lol. The throttle twitch to me really ain’t bad. I’ve ridden my triumph with a worse one. The transmission has gotten a bit better going into first. Downshifting to slow other gears is like butter. It does run a bit hot on extreme days but even when it’s 110 I still have a couple bars on the temp gauge to go, and they only rise to this while at a complete stop.

@@ChopperFett After I typed all that and hit send I thought, great he's going to think I'm nuts. I can ramble on about fun things like your z900rs all day. Man, the history behind this bike is bad ass. Very glad to see your feedback was all positive so thanks for sharing. I have been searching used for sure. I agree that's a big money saver plus we might get some cool bits already installed like you did 😉.

Use a portable battery operated tire inflator to mitigate your valve stem issues. I like the 20v Dewalt. Small hose, easy to thread on, set the desired pressure and push go. I had a 2018 Goldwing that was extremely difficult to fill / check the rear tire. First you have to find it under the saddlebags, then lay on your belly to hook up the hose 😬. The grips can be fixed with Grip Puppies - I put them on every bike.

The gears engaging could be an easy fix. Sounds like the clutch cable needs adjustment. Good practice on some bikes is rolling it forward slightly when engaging first. This will help it go into first gear easier. As for indicators, I have been guilty of the same thing.

I can agree with the valve stems. Checking the pressure with a pencil style air gauge is a minor pain in the butt. Adding air is easy for me. Depends on what kind of chuck you have.

I have 33,000 miles on my bought it new in July 2019 2018 Z900RS (not cafe, standard). The valve stems are absurd. I couldn't wait to use up the oem tires and at my first tire replacement changed to 90 degree stems, which has made a huge difference. A must do mod. I added a windshield, center stand, throttle lock, rear rack with side bars, engine crash bars, radiator guard. My transmission works great. It needs to be shifted deliberately to avoid shifting from 1 to N on a start off (instead of 1 to 2), but that is really rare for me. The handlebar grips are too small. That was standard in the mid seventies and still is standard for 'sporty' bikes today. Easy to fix as others have mentioned. Ya just gotta be trained with the turn signals, super rare for me to leave em on, but it happens. A super competent do it all bike. Not a sport bike but rides very sporty. I've done many 200+ mile days cruising around, no problem. Love it.

Awesome reply man! I have adjusted a lot since I filmed this. Turn signals I have been turning off as I’m shifting to second, it’s just getting used to the. I have crash guards, center stand and just added Chic Masqeroad fairing and that has been a game changer.

Heres the thing. I own a 2019 Street Glide. & A 2019 Z900RS Cafe the Harley is for crushing miles in comfort and the Z900RS cafe is for brapping around. If ya want self canceling turn signals dont ride a sport bike. I have NO issues with the transmission on my Z900RS in fact it's flawless. The Z900RS Cafe doesnt have a center stand. As far as putting air in the tires. My Harley is'nt easy to put air in the tires. I have to pull one of my bags to air up the rear tire. As far as the grips go dont buy a sport bike if you want comfortable grips. You need to keep in perspective that these bikes were designed to emulate the old school KZ1000's.

Oh for sure I completely understand every point you bring up. It’s my first dabble into sport bikesque scene so some of things I’m learning along the ways. All the things mentioned are so petty I’m aware, but what is great about is that if this is the worse things wrong with bike it’ll be a great bike for me. I have a Dyna which ain’t as nice as your glide but it’s my pavement pounder for miles. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@ChopperFett I was a road racer when I was a teenager got into Harleys as I got older. I'm now 55 and live out in sunny Az so when I'm not crushing miles on the Glide I'm carving canyons on the Cafe. My Z900 RS Cafe is'nt comfortable on my old bones but she takes me back to the 80's when I was a kid dragging a knee on a road course in Phx. I havent ridden the model Z900 you have mine has the 1/4 fairing and lower bars so it's more of a crotch rocket stance but I love how the bike handles and the power lifts with the traction control turned off are so fun.

Only your number five would be annoying but a right angle valve would sort that on the first change of rubber.... For me with my bikes on the Ninja zx14R it is a super hot bike to ride so I use it mainly on cool days and all through winter and the heat off the bike in winter is awesome to keep me warm. And the M109R is all fine apart from the 1,2 shift it is clunky as fu@k and a common complaint with these bikes, but the gearbox is set up for drag racing on these with a dog clutch as well as the main clutch for just first gear so the engine don't snap off the gear teeth when you hit it hard from the torque. It is a feast or famine gear box it is silky smooth and very fast gearbox if your drag racing it or if you change from 1 to 2 like at no rpm but anything in between you get a massive clunk, 2 to 3 and up to 5th are all normal.
