A lot of moves are similar as aikido was spawned from jujutsu. The school is simple but complex. There is a reason for each part of the move/style. (I’m a student)

That is because it is Yawara.

Jujutsu is the correct way to spell it. Not jiu-jitsu or ju-jitsu or jui-juitsu. However, I wouldn't walk up to Gordon Ryan and tell him his tat is spelled wrong.

A Ryu (Ryuha) is basically a war school and most Ryuha have multiple sub-disciplines usually a jutsu. Samurai would train in the Ryuha associated with the region/lord. So a Ryuha could have KenJutsu (swordmenship), JuJutsu (grappling), HonoJutsu (arresting with rope), Kyūjutsu (archery), taijutsu (hand to hand), etc. There could be up to 18 different jutsu in a ryuha (this is why the idea of Bruce Lee creating mix martial arts is laughable, it was the norm in the past).

@@TheCCBoi You confused MMA with complete martial art. The idea of having no style and just pick from every art what suits you is primary based on Bruce Lees idea.

@@Gieszkanne Great points, but samurai at an individual level (after completing initial training in a Ryuha), would train in other styles and would personalize the fighting system (that’s how newer styles were born). This model was the norm for any elite fighting force though-out most of history. Dogmatic loyalty to one style is a fairly new concept.

This was a martial art taught to ashigaru who were low status samurai on the front lines of battle (infantry). They wore light, somewhat flimsy armor and the groin was supposedly susceptible to strikes.

This is not a kenjutsu based school.

Unlike Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, Shingan Ryu wasn’t created by any member of the Yagyu clan. Permission to append the Yagyu name was granted to the founder by Yagyu Jubei. It was a school taught primarily to ashigaru foot soldiers. It’s base is taijutsu (jujutsu), but there are sword kata etc., of course.

@@Renbukan ok, that's a valuable information, thank you to answer me! just one last question : I have watched some of your demonstration videos... and i noticed that in the "Kenjutsu section" you used two different types of bokuto ... ( the first one showed is the thicc bokuto and after that, there are also a more lean bokuto that is also used ) , why there are two types of bokuto in Shingan ryu? is it any historical reason for it?

@@Lucasmagalhaes-vg5ox The thick bokuto we call Odachi. It isn’t really kenjutsu but rather a method of developing internal and external power via correct posture and breath flow. There is also iai, which doesn’t appear in the video. In fact, the video shows only about 30% of the full curriculum.
