Waiting on kawhi has caused them to miss out on key free agents. So theyre gonna really suffer from lack of depth. I just dont see them going to the finals when other teams in the west have star power AND depth (not to mention defensive systems and chemistry which are two things off season signings cant prove)

Basketball has been ruined by Max contract that's why garbage teams can't attract star players. Maybe the Suns or the Kings can land a big free-agent if they threw four hundred million dollars at them. but if you can only get a certain amount of money why would you go play for a bad franchise.

That's to protect small market franchises from being irrelevant after signing a big star. So say Cleveland said Lebron here's 90 million/year for 10 years. But then the salary cap restricts them from getting him another 2 good players? What then? The contract is fully guaranteed why would he want out of that? But a big market team can say here's 50 million and you can make 40 million off the court in our city through branding. Hence they can get another star or two while staying under the salary cap. The salary cap was put in so a small market team can compete with bigger markets or extremely rich franchises. The soft cap was put in place so small market teams could retain their stars; kind of like hurting a good team for drafting well if they couldn't go over the cap to retain those players. Luxury tax was put in place so rich owners just couldn't buy championships. The business model of the NBA ( and why its so great) is that they sell the players just as much if not more than the teams those athletes play for.
