The 2024 QCKBF Tournament Season is officially underway! On this episode, I travel to Badin Lake to compete in the inaugural event of the Queen City Kayak Bass Fishing Season: The Yadkin YOLO. This is a multi-lake event with High Rock Lake, Badin Lake, Tuckertown Reservoir, and Lake Tillery all in play. I rolled the dice and went to a ramp I'd never seen before where I was met with colder than expected conditions and VERY muddy water making for some extremely difficult fishing...

I’m still not confident or good at it, but I’m definitely incrementally better than I was a year ago at this time. I think the Year of the Jig will transition to YEARS of the jig. I’m going to extend my practice for at least another year with the goal of fishing it at least 30mins every time I’m on the water.

It’s funny, but I shot a video yesterday (which will drop this coming Sunday) and that was the message: spring is coming. It’s not here yet…and I’m still doing horrible, but I’m seeing signs of good things on the horizon.

I've been getting my ass kick so far this year, pretty badly. I've been in a funk too. Keep fishing & it will turn around! It always does. Last year I was in a slump & then was on fire the rest of the year beating my largemouth PB 3 times with my current being an 11.4 I do fish big swimbaits a lot though. So that is a hero or zero outcome alot of the time. It's worth it when you hook into a beast! This year my goal is to up my PB again! & I'm spending a lot of time on water trying!!!

It depends on the day. I live on Wylie. The last few days have been really clear. Today? Muddy for no reason.

I'm not sure if the year of the jig ended with the start of 2024 but working it last year definitely payed off! Way to work hard in bad conditions,. Great video as always

I think the Year of the Jig will continue into 2024. I didn’t gain the skill or confidence that I was hoping to achieve last year, so I plan on continuing to use it for at least 30 mins per outing. Maybe this will be the year all of this work will finally pay off!

Muddy water isn’t a problem…unless it’s also cold. It’s the cold AND muddy conditions that’s wreaking havoc. But it’ll be warm soon enough and we can move on to new excuses why we didn’t catch ‘em. Haha.

If I wasn't fishing big swimbaits I wouldn't have broken that double digit threshold. I've been throwing big 8 to 10 inch swimbaits going on 4 years. But I've only been throwing them 2.5 years living down south. Before I lived in southwest Ohio & a 5 pounder up there is a 10 down here.

Another great video! Maybe low numbers but look to be quality fish! Question, I mainly focus on saltwater fishing however I know if I'm trying out a lure/bait I've never used, blue or some variation is always a go to... Especially when they offer 420 colors of the same lure. Is that typically true with freshwater as well? Thx Josh and I appreciate your content!

Yes and no. Blue isn't really a "go-to" color as there aren't many things in nature that are that color. When trying a new lure, I typically go with something natural-looking like a shad/white, crayfish/green, or black. There are instances where other colors shine, but it's hard to go wrong with a white, green, or black.
