Kayak camping is one of my favourite things to do, but I never thought I would enjoy camping in a swamp. My mind was changed during this trip to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge - truly one of the greatest paddling destinations in the world.

This is one of those places that is hard to accurately describe. Its a wilderness like few others. Its good to see this park covered on Paddle TV

Awesome place to paddle. Thanks for sharing. Ever been down to the Everglades Canoe trail . Same type of paddling with platform camping.

After living in Naples and paddling part of your trip many times in the mid 2000s I was waiting for the mosquito report. LOL I could not bring enough Off with me for my trips. I think I saw a few mosquitoes fly by carrying small cars at some point.

Looks fantastic! What month did you do it and any thoughts on the best time of the year to do it in terms of mild temperatures and less bugs?

This trip was late April, the summer months are too hot and buggy to recommend, fall through spring is fantastic! Late February through April is the busiest time of year so plan well ahead for permits during those months. Come on down and see the Okefenokee!
