Kayak Catfishing at Mattawoman Creek 03-02-2024

This was a follow on to our last trip to Mattawoman Creek. Last time we fished from shore and did not land a fish! This time we planned to go on our kayaks with the same bait and see how we do. Well, the outcome was totally different. So come along and see how we did! All I can say is neither of us was skunked!

It is always shocking when you fish the saltier Chesapeake Bay and you land a 24 to 32 inch catfish!

I always mean to go after some crappie, but I am busy this time or the year. I did catch two crappie at a pond earlier in the year on a short shore fishing jaunt.

Nice video gentlemen. That's my home town of 53 years. I've spent my entire live fishing that creek and it has good days and bad days. The Bass Tournaments are the worst. Wanted to throw in a note about Mattingly Park... It's pronounced SlaYvins for example. The boat ramp used to be owned by the previous owner who had it open to the public for decades before he passed. He use to live in the house on the hill beside the park by the Base fence. When he passed the Town bought the land. Monster Cats out there if you go south towards the River and get in the Channel. Good luck and be safe out there. The bottom of the Creek is a dangerous place.

Nicely done Martin. Appreciate ya. Last weekend My wife discovered some catfish filets in the freezer that we’d caught awhile ago and forgot about. I tried a different batter this time and it was the best we’ve ever done at home. “Louisiana Beer Batter” mix, 1 cup of beer. That’s it. Dropped em in hot fry oil in a cast iron skillet. Came out perfect. Cheers.

@@MachFishingfinally got things in order and moved back to the eastern shore. I’ve caught 13 blue cats in 3 trips. Maybe 11 hours total. Glad to be back and thanks for all the tips. I ended up with a square stern canoe with outriggers for my needs. Cheers buddy thanks for all you do on here

Glad you are back where you enjoy being. I also have a 15.5 ft canoe, with a square back. That is where I mounted an electric trolling motor. I have not used the canoe in a few years, since I do so much kayaking. But have good memories of catching many fish and bushels of crabs off of my canoe.

I got it from Amazon Winco Cutting Board, 18 by 24 by 1/2-Inch, White, 18" x 24"
