Kayak Duck Hunting With My Youth 20 Gauge

3 жыл бұрынHeaded out for another Texas kayak duck hunt a couple days ago and finally brought my youth 20 gauge along to give it a shot for the first time in year. I went back out to the same public land/lake spot that I have been having good success at and once again I was able to decoy some birds perfectly. I was actually surprised by how well I was able to connect with the 20 GA and plan on taking it out again soon. Hope y'all enjoy and be sure to subscribe if you do!

Started using a youth 20 last turkey season and continued using it for ducks. Love it.

Love it that your using the youth 20. My daughter has one in pink camo. It’s a smooth shooting super light gun. I was thinking about getting one for myself but they are hard to find around here at the moment. We were thinking about you today out in the blind. Took my daughter and a couple of my sons friends out this morning

Hope y'all had some good luck this morning! The 20 is definitely a smooth swinging little gun, I'll have to break it out some more in the future. Looking like I'll be headed back to VA this weekend, let's try to get together for a duck hunt or late season goose hunt. I'll text you when I'm headed back that way

Nice. Good thing you are in Texas. You didn’t miss a thing here in Virginia. Another season of 50 degree January days has produced the worst ever duck season in the history of waterfowling. We are about as discouraged as we’ve ever been. Glad to see someone is at least seeing some ducks.

I definitely am not missing it much right now, heard that from a lot of people about the worst season since they’ve been hunting. I’ll actually be headed back on Sunday though so hoping the last week might have some decent weather and hunting. Hope y’all finish out strong!

You, my friend, are a good shot. I've completely lost my ability to hit a flying duck. I just shot about a box of shells with 0 kills this past weekend. However, i did purchase a ShotKam to see where I'm missing and hopefully will help me correct . thanks for your videos.

@@HokeOutdoors Yeah thank you bro! I got lucky once last autumn when I saw my first canada geese and dropped 3 from a flock. You are one of my favorite channels because you are super respectful towards ducks and only shoot to kill in good distance.

Surprisingly I don’t have any issues with it fitting me and I’ll a pretty lanky guy. If you’re referring to the thing on the end of the gun barrel that’s actually a Shotkam

@@HokeOutdoors No, I was referring to the weight of the gun. 5.25 lbs for walk-in hunts on public would be nice. I think with the shim on the new bantam I will be fine with fit. 13 LOP. Nice videos btw.

Thanks for the video Thomas...great as always. I had an older lease partner that shot a 20ga Benelli auto. He put a whooping on the ducks within 50 yards. He shot 3 inch 1oz. #3. What load were you shooting? Way to put it on em' !

Thanks Sly! I was shooting 3 inch 1 1/8 oz #5 bismuth loads, unfortunately I have a modified choke stuck in this gun so not quite the ideal pattern out past 25-30 yards but just gives me the extra incentive to try and get them close

Thanks man! Mainly just because I like the concealment of laying out from the kayak a little better and it would be tough to keep all my stuff handy and dry just trying to hang it from a tree. Plus I can make a move more quickly with the kayak if I end up being off the X

Hey Thomas I’m 12 and yesterday we went for some ducks in southwest Virginia and I got a a pintail! Have you ever got a pintail in Virginia the funny thing is that that was my first puddle duck except wood ducks LOL. Anyway I need you advise for a mount do you think I should get a dead mount or a mount of it sitting on a log.

I got a flying mount because when I first saw it I saw it flying I think it will turn out great thanks for your advice it was really hard decide if on a sitting or flying mount but the flying mount came out out on top

Very true, the saying about a bird in hand vs two in the bush has proved true for me before. I just felt like if I had let him land though I still would’ve had a pretty easy shot even if he picked back up

If you let them land u have a better chance to shoot two instead of shooting one in the air and the rest fly away, you shoot one on the water and take another shot after the pick up

The bottom there is pretty mucky and has lots of logs on it so it’s not like I could move fast. He was swimming pretty quick and definitely would’ve dove once I got close. Easier just to take the top of his head off than risk losing him
