What to expect after a Vitrectomy 4.5 months later. After a cataract surgery, there are still issues with clarity at both distance and close. Also there are difficulties with multiple vision in one eye and extreme difficulty reading letters.

I am sorry for all the hardship and uncertainty you are going through. You are a well spoken individual and deserve to be treated by caring professionals who are skilled listeners.

Kevin keep posting videos about your continuing journey. I have found them to be brutally honest and extremely helpful. So few people seem to have information on the web about the full impact this kind of surgery can have. You are almost made to believe it’s a walk in the park and it’s not!

Kevin, my surgeon was pretty straight with me. I had my Retina detachment done the first week of Feb 2020. Its a long process, my doctor had me wait until today 10/16/20 he wanted my eye to completely hear before they did anything. My surgeon said my eye will never be the same once they screw with the back of your eye will distort sharp vision the rest of our lives. My was a complete detachment my letters are twisted and some are faint. Straight lines dont look staight they have a bit a of a wave to them. I look at it like he saved the vision in my left eye, im near sighted i chose to get a near sighted lense so i could balance my eyes. Because i lost my depth perception. My right eye is healthy so far if they do the same surgery on my right i would be legally blind. They are thinking they can get me back to 20/30-40 in my left eye with distortion. Good luck ill update you with my eye also.

Your videos have been so helpful, especially when trying to explain to someone else what your vision is like. I had my vitrectomy 110 days ago. I certainly thought my vision would be much better by now. My Doctor talks down to me too. Not sure what their problem is. I go back for a checkup tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it. Letters aren’t on top of each other for me but they are bent and blurry. He didn’t want to see me for another 4 months and I complained and told him that I just couldn’t see. He did another test and he saw a macular pucker that was caused by the surgery. He matter of factly said well we could just do another surgery to laser that down and then do a cataract surgery later. He said my cataract isn’t bad. My regular doctor said a lot of his patients have puckers so maybe I won’t have to have that surgery. I caught mine right away. I was driving home from work one day and notices a back curtain in my eye. They did the surgery within 48 hours. Not sure why whites are so yellow with my bad eye. This has definitely been one of the worst years of my life. People don’t get it unless they have been through it. Thank you again. I certainly hope by now that your sight is much improved.

Thanks for the info! Your doctor was not very good at communicating, which sucks.

Had a vitrectomy almost 2 months ago for a macular hole & my vision is still distorted & hazy. I have received devastating news that the same problem is occurring in my other eye. We’re going to watch & wait. Im not very optimistic, because my vision only got worse, requiring me to have surgery. I’m so afraid. I was depending on my “good eye” while my other eye was healing. I’m only 51 & the thought of living with this distorted, hazy vision in both eyes is depressing. I’m researching if there’s supplements or eye drops that I can take to stop the progression in my “good eye.” Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.

I won’t ask the Dr. name…would you mind telling me the city state you had it done? I’m in Las Vegas, need eye surgery and thinking I should go to Mayo, Cleveland Clinic..etc.

It’s very devastating to hear that the retina detached after having the vitrectomy. Why die they fail? It seems that the more I research this most people had to have multiple surgeries to repair and re-attach the retina again. Why can’t these surgeons get it right in the first place? It’s so disheartening and people have to continue to take time off of work for recovery after these multiple surgeries. I feel the emotional ordeal that you and others go thru and I pray that everyone who is experiencing this to have a good and painless recovery. Let’s pray that someday people will only have one vitrectomy to attach the retina.

What an amazing video…I had surgery 1 month ago to repair a macular hole. Positioned face down 24/7 for 4 days and then no sleeping on back until gas bubble was gone (day 8). My vision in that eye is still blurry and I’m worried that I did something wrong. I go for my 1 month check in 2 days and am afraid I am the reason my sight is so blurry. I feel that I was not given enough info. as what to expect and I didn’t know the right questions to ask. Thank you so much for your insight into this problem…doctors just don’t realize that we need more information on a subject we are not familiar with.

I’m a month and a half out since surgery. I just realized you have another video and I’ll check that out. Thank you. I’ve had a ton of question’s and realized it’s the description that’s creating my confusion. Thank you for doing these. So appreciated. I’m having really strange slanted disrupted vision. So I’ll watch the first one.

Thank you!! I’m 2 weeks ‘post pucker’ and have most of your symptoms & frustrations. Nice to know it’s a long term recovery. Well done!

Thank you. Your experience has been way more informative than the trickle on info the doctors let me have. I am one week post op. I am around 40% gas now. It is like a shrinking island of real blurriness surrounded by less blurriness. I have notice a fogginess on the lens in the surrounding increasing in size Peripherie. Actually hoping for the cataract as I am -10 and the probability of the left eye getting a tear is high. I would rather have the lenses changed than to go through a tear on the left eye as well. Hating the horizontal facedown position. So looking forward to lying on my back again. Please keep the videos coming. They are much appreciated. God Bless, Paul Sudbrock Wittenberg, Germany.

I just had the same surgery on my left eye. And I am having similar issues. The gas bubble is still lingering and vision is very blurry and crossed. I also have bent lines. It is so aggravating. Thank you for you information. Keep posting, hope you vision gets better and I am sorry for all of your frustration. I definitely feel your pain.

Kevin, so sorry for what you’ve been through snd how your expectations were managed along the way. My surgery was a week ago. Can’t see at all from that eye and can’t imagine driving or working again. I appreciate your videos, as this is a disconcerting and scary process.
