I love how you used VLANs to separate the traffic for different devices. I’ve seen a few of these home network setups and haven’t seen them separate the traffic like you did here. Great video! Subbed!

Guy, Great stuff. Question for you; why add the modem and have a wireless modem and router in your network setup? My home also has the network wiring terminate in the basement (next to a water heater).
@KBTrainings
@KBTrainings 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher! Thank you for watching. I don't get your question but I will try to respond according to what I think you meant 🙂. My cable modem is strictly a DOCSIS modem and doesn't have any routing or Wi-Fi capabilities. That is why the APs and a Firewall are needed. And also having many APs will help with the speed and the load. I just got a 1Gbps fiber connection installed (video coming) and I don't want the APs to be the bottlenecks for my setup. Not sure if I got to your point, but I am here anytime. Thanks again.

@@KBTrainings Ok thanks! So it's really not worth the investment to upgrade to Cat6e?
@KBTrainings
@KBTrainings 3 жыл бұрын
No, it is not worth it. We usually use 1Gbps in homes, and it is going to be the case for a while. Cat6 only offers you 10Gbps up to about 160 ft, so for a home, you can also get 10Gbps if really needed.

Very informative video, I see you are planning to use USW-24-POE..does it have enough power budget to run your 10 cameras, 3 APS and flex minis..I am also planing to have similar number of poe cameras, APs and wondering if it is going maxout/exeeding the poe switch budget..?
@KBTrainings
@KBTrainings 3 жыл бұрын
I currently have 11 cameras and 4 APs and I don't think power consumption will ever be an issue. The switch is now drawing only 51W. The biggest AP (UniFi LR) uses around 7W and each camera needs about 3W.

Love the setup and can't wait for the VLAN setup video. 1 question. Wouldn't have been better to keep your lan wall ports a few inches away from the power plugs? For interference reasons and for upgrade in the future unless you also ran tubes in the walls.
@KBTrainings
@KBTrainings 4 жыл бұрын
VLAN set up video coming next week. The interference might be an issue in some areas, but there is at least 2 or 3 inches between the outlets and the wires are way apart in the walls. Thank you for your viewership, I appreciate it!
