How to use the KD-8000 Baker's Percent function key for your new scale. Did you get a new KD 8000 and you don't know how to use the baker's percent scale? Follow along in this video and learn how it works. It's really easy. I have another video showing how to program it so it won't auto shut off. It is in the same playlist.

I just did a test, and if you wish, you can keep all ingredients in the same bowl on the scale and still use this function. After putting in the flour press % and then tare. After that you can add 2% salt, then press tare again and then add 65% water. It will continue to calculate the percentages against the original weight of the flour.

*This is a great scale: sensitive and accurate.* I've been using them for many years but never used the percent function. Almost every bread I make uses a preferment (biga or poolish) or starter which negates the bakers percent function. I simplified things by putting all my different formulas into Excel. This way, I can set the loaf size and number of loaves and it calculates the weight values for me including the values for the biga or poolish.

Sounds good. The percent function helps those who are trying to use other bakers formulas that are set in only percentages. It also helps those bakers who need to scale up or down quite a bit.

Nice to see this. I have this scale and have been confused about bakers percent. I am still, however confused as to how to add the sourdough to the percentages.

Bonnie Parr You would have to follow a formula or work one out. I have many many formulas in my books with the baker's percent already figured out. Nice bonus!...the possibility that I might be able to make wonderful homemade sourdough bread, which I love! Actually bought this scale to weigh the flour for my pasta maker machine and to weigh packages for estimating shipping costs! Cool! I would love to see your sourdough recipe now that I'm plugged into the proper scale by coincidental circumstances! Finally! Some good luck!...Now...if I can only succeed in making the bread!

I just received my kd8000. Mine did come with the adapter but did not come with batteries. I purchased mine through Amazon. Nice scale would recommend this scale.

I have a 100% hydration starter. When I weight it I know half of it is flour and half of it is water letting me back those out of any recipe. Fairly easy calculations.

Hello dear. If I want use it for soap making. For example coconut oil 50%. How can I use it? Press tare key then percentage key ?

***** Oh yea, Susan, the scale doesn't figure the percent out for you, it just makes it easier to follow a formula done in baker's percent, which many of the professional formulas are.

I saw one comment about this unit, saying it does not weight the first 1 gram, but starts at 2 grams. Is this true?

No, it weighs in 1 gram increments.

Yes, you can. It has metric and standard so you can use grams or ounces/pounds. Metric is much more accurate as there are approximately 28 grams to 1 ounce.
