About Shotcut: - Pressing the "s" key when you are on the timeline also splits clips. The "cut" tool removes a clip and copies it at the same time that way you can move a clip to somewhere in the timeline without dragging it if you want. - When you have a clip selected in the timeline, you can just press the "f" key to bring up the filters menu and it will have the cursor on the search bar already. - If you want to know what all the shortcut keys are, hit / or ? on your keyboard and it will bring up the action and shortcut menu. You can also get to it through the help menu. In the action and shortcut menu you can search keywords on how to do certain functions and even edit the shortcuts if you'd like. - There has two types of keyframes. You only saw the simple keyframes. The advanced keyframes are activated by pressing the clock icon that is to the right of every parameter that allows for keyframes in the menu for each effect. You didn't see that icon because it got cut off in your fx layout. Open up the effects panel more to the right and you will see the clock icons. The advanced keyframes function like how you would expect normal keyframes to. And there are two types of advanced keyframes depending on the parameter. One with curves and one without curves. The keyframes without curves function similarly to the ones in Kdenlive. - There are helpful notes that come up right under the player screen when you select some filters and even the advanced keyframes. For example, when you picked the size position and rotate filter right under the left side of the player there is a note that explains how to work the filter purely on the screen. Also a helpful note comes up in the same place when click the clock icon for advanced keyframes. Keep an eye out for them. - Speaking of notes, there is a notes function where you can write whatever notes you want for yourself or for someone else on a project. Just look for it in the list of icons above that is to the left of the list of layout options. It would've been best to run through some full tutorials to get at least the basics of Shotcut before doing a comparison

Thank you for this information! With the detail you provided here, I was able to find the advanced keyframes area. In testing this further, I did find that not every effect provides this option, but now I know what to look for! This is very helpful and I'll pin your comment so others can benefit! Appreciate the help!

Also, shotcut does have the ability to make multiple keyframes on one clip. You have to press the stopwatch/clock button next to the property in the filter and you can set multiple keyframes there.

Absolutely, shotcut does have this (essential?) capability.

Had to either buy of find something other than Adobe (long story). I found Kdenlive and can't believe how great it is. Thanks for the tutorials!

I think Shotcut can add additional keyframes? It has the default start/end simple start/end for simple start stop filters, but you can add additional keyframes from the keyframe view timeline.

7:29 WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Lower the bitrate and set it to slow or very for smallest size and best quality. These fast presets matter more for capturing footage where you need performance the most during gameplay and etc. When you're converting you're big recorded file, you want it to be small and efficient if you plan to keep the video in any storage device, including external SSDs that store all of one's videos. Also, this video did very little to convey any difference between programs. I was hoping something along the lines of, does Shotcut support SRT/ASS burning like Kdenlive does? I need to burn English subtitles into JP content like Cardcaptor Sakura and Sonic X, and make X-VCD for the Sega Saturn.

Hi Retro Skaff! Thank you for the feedback! Interestingly, when analyzed, the clips using "ultafast" have a higher bitrate and otherwise no noticeable difference in quality, provided the FPS is consistent from capture to final render. While the final video size is larger, it does not appear to be significantly so (appears to be ~4% larger, which is a difference of ~3MB for short to medium form videos). Regarding subtitles in Shotcut, I'll keep looking, but a quick search into the documentation and forums indicates that subtitles can be made (and exported as SRT) by using titles or 3rd party add-ons. I wasn't able to find evidence of a language model or native process that converts language to subtitle (as kdenlive currently supports). Hope that helps!

@@Photolearningism You didn't understand any of what I mentioned. Read it again. Capture file is big, final video can be optimized to be small. Very Fast high bitrate for record, Slow low bitrate for final video. And I explicitly mentioned burning SRT/ASS files INTO the video. Let's say I have an SRT file already prepared. For example I ripped the PGS from Bluray and converted it to SRT, can I burn that into the movie??? It's a relatively easy to understand question.

Im very interested in the part where you said that your video needs to be small & efficient if you are using external storage. I happen to be doing exactly that with all my videos, but they aren't small. If there is a way, How do i make my videos small and efficient without losing quality?

Something that says resolve in the title 😅 Seriously though, I used power director for ages up until the GoPro hero 4 was around. Then needed to update. Tried KDE live of a host of others. The timeline must be functional and must work with the hardware I have. Need to update my PC so ATM I can just get by editing 4k using a 1/4 res 1080 timeframe in resolve. But I love that program so much I'm going to update my system.

Easy to understand and quality output. I disagree with above as with resolve I've had problems making transparent stingers with trying to chroma key out green left some green artifacts looking cheesy. But when I figured it out in kdenlive, which isn't one click easy like resolve, it was superior in quality.

@@mocronik did you adjust the white and dark range and select the green picker etc? Might be worth looking at what you've just said if I was going to use a green screen in the future. I've done it once with resolve and was happy with the outcome. It's all about getting the screen equally lite. There's an android app called 'green screener' by someone called Hollywood. You have to pay for it but it helps light your screen properly.

Great video with very useful information, but apart from that I really like your graphical art with all the moving parts, rectangles etc...I hope to be able to imitate these effects in the near future. Well, I am only just starting with learning how to edit, so it will take some time, and I am not stressed about it, but you really show what these programs are capable of, once you get the hang of it.

Hi Jan P. Wittebol! Thank you for the comment! I encourage you to keep at it - the more ideas you can try, the better the creative process will flow! in the video, the more intricate motion graphics are created in Krita using the animation tools - If you're interested in this, I'd suggest checking out my weekly Wednesday lives streams in which a new animation is created every week - the others (miscellaneous shapes) are crafted in Glaxnimate, which is an up-and-coming tool, but very useful. I'll be doing an updated video on Glaxnimate in the coming weeks to catch up on some recent developments - Hope that helps!
