@@SpyderRae actually you see less subs in sub-only competitions than in IBJJF-type rulesets. The fact is that the 2 fighters are both so good technically that none of them can have an edge on the other. @@timmyotoole6063 The reason some people like that concept, is because bjj has artificial limits that guess pulling unrealistically effective. Normally, guard pulling would be punished by slams and ground and pound. If you aren't allowed to use the real life counter to a technique, then it will just run amuck in competition. You say it's not judo, but it should still be able to work in the same environment if it is effective, should it not?

@@gesshugh9976 I see what you're saying for sure. Keenan wouldn't pull guard were he to meet Muhammed Aly in an alley. There's a reason no one not named Ryan hall pulls guard in mma. @TRA25
@TRA25 5 жыл бұрын
I think it’s turned out this way because otherwise we’d have matches going for ages and therefore make it too difficult to run a bjj tournament in a reasonable time frame. Daniel Dughman In simulation of a real conflict assuming no outside influences such as people interfering a point system simply does not suffice. Submissions represent the ability to significantly injure, kill or knockout an opponent and when a point system is in place you don’t have to show that you had that degree of control to have won in a life or death scenario. A point system also makes you fight for points rather than submissions, points are easy much easier to get and assuming you have a good enough defence you don’t even have to attempt a submission to win. Under a point system you don’t have to have good cardio and don’t necessarily have to be good at submissions to win, although it certainly helps. This doesn’t translate well into real life though where if you gas out you’re toast. If you don’t have the submission skill required to at least be able to submit someone untrained but competent you’re in trouble when you gas out and as martial artists you don’t want the results of a conflict to be entirely dependent on your conditioning.
@anonymouse7095
@anonymouse7095 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Dughman it’s like point sparring in karate. Drives the competitors to train for points rather than practical real-world scenarios. I’m sure both of these guys can defend themselves just fine. But the point system turns it into a silly game rather than a match to see who could really beat who.

@@anonymouse7095 Yep, it dilutes the art. Most TKD guys these days have extremely weak kicks. They don't learn power, they learn speed and placement. That's what wins points. It's fine for sport, but it's not going to save them against an attacker amped up adrenaline or narcotics. Edit: As opposed to someone like Joe Rogan who learned old school TKD. That dudes kicks are absolutely lethal.

He had a grip both times. I'm guessing you mean after the restart. If you go to about 3:54 you see he goes for a grip doesn't get it and immediately stands back up. Then he grabs the belt which counts as a grip. That's my understanding of the rule but I'm no expert.

Keenan had one advantage (don't you see the little "1" on the right ?) so the scores were 0-1-0 to 0-0-0 The first big number is the main score (when you pass the guard, execute a takedown successfully, sweep, take the back or the mount, knee on belly, etc.) The little number at the top right of the big number is the advantages (you score advantages when for example you try to pass the guard but don't manage to stay 3 seconds in the position, or when you go for a submission but the opponent manages to get out of it, etc.) The little number at the bottom right is the penalties (you can get penalties generally for lack of combativeness, or for some fouls) If the main score numbers are equal, you check the advantages If the main score numbers and advantages numbers are equal, you check the penalties If everything is equal, it's up to the referee(s) decision Here, Keenan managed to gain an advantage (honestly I don't see why, you can just see that the referee gave it at 3:40, but it has been cut from the video)

Everyone talking shit doesn't even train, or understand the point of sport jiu jitsu. Its a tournament with points and advantages, not a street fight. They are playing a game in a sense and are playing the rules in their favor. All that matters is you win, doesnt matter if its by a point, an advantage or a sub. Win is a win. If either of these guys were in a street fight, they would use completely different techniques all based of the scenerio.

Bret Hernandez Excellent point! I think we still have a lot of people out there who are discreetly envious of those they are intimidated by. Both of these guys looked good, and they appear to be decent sportsman. Let the whiners continue to cry, and let’s just move on.

Shichi Dan Appear to be decent? They are both multi time world champions. Thats the point, 90% of you dont even know who these guys are or even train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Just on here spitting non sense based off their google searches or trying to compare this shit to a mma fight. Go to a BJJ gym and see how far you make it in a “light” roll against one of these guys. They will blow your mind when you realize you have zero chance of survival against most all of these guys.

I think most of us understand that, we just don't like it. That's our prerogative. Just as it's yours to be entertained by it. There's room for both opinions.

For bjj to evolve they need to penalize guard pulling or sitting it should be considered a takedown and 2 points

This my friend is called Judo haha + BJJ is ground game if you force people to play take downs then something will be missing and people will start playing judo and wrestling to avoid losing points so in this case they will only play guard as a result of losing the stand up game ! In training people will start focus on wrestling and judo rather than guard btw I am a guard puller so yeh maybe i am getting emotional on the subject haha
