We do a deep dive first look at Keep'Em Rolling Race to the Rhine, the expanded and updated edition of the original Race to the Rhine wargame (boardgame). In this 1- to 4-player game of logistics and combat in 1944 France from Phalanx games, each player controls one Allied leader and attempts to be the first player to get their forces across the Rhine River. We also look at These Are My Credentials, which is a new solitaire game added to the game in this edition.

That sounds like a fun one as well. My playthrough tonight will get delayed by a trip to see Godzilla x King Kong, but I'll be digging in tomorrow. :)

The double option (Race to the Rhine & These Are My Credentials) does seem to offer a lot for solo play. I'm playing Race to the Rhine solo now and am riffing off the main idea a bit. So far it's working pretty well.

I love the concept of this game; the rulebook alone feels pretty dense (maybe not so for veteran war-gamers), but still pretty learnable.

I'm about halfway through learning it and am finding it pretty straightforward so far. I think a good part of the rulebook is the supporting material (graphics and examples), which actually ends up speeding the learning up. I'm often finding that I half-understand a rule once I read it, then as soon as I look at the example, it all makes sense. But yes, this might be my wargamer angle speaking here. TL:DR, I'm still learning it, but so far it's easier than it looks. :)

It's most definitely a fun game, and a fun combination of Euro-style gameplay with a logistics wargame. Thanks for stopping in, Custard!

@@ZillaBlitz I'm just hoping we don't sell the farm to get our guy. My prediction: We don't trade up and we draft Bo Nix.

@@mikereiling7 I'm kind of hoping we get Maye by trading up, but I have no idea which of the five possible QBs will work out.

Great presentation, Mike! I think logistics games are an interesting Endeavor, and a different way to view a campaign. It becomes not so much, "Where should we attack" but "Where do we have supplies to support an attack?" I have a game called "Supply Lines of the American Revolution" That has a lot of cool supply based mechanics dealing with getting supplies from point A to point B. This is critical because that's what gives you your attack dice! Many times you could wipe your opponent out, but you have nothing to attack them with, just a bunch of hungry naked men with fancy clubs! Ha! That would be a great name for a supply based wargame!🤣

Its to bad they don't have an upgrade kit for those who have the original. I used to work with a guy who was a big WW2 buff and he bought a WW2 truck just like the one on the cover of the box. He had to have it shipped over from Belgium. He drove it to work on day it was great. I only wish he gave me a ride in it.
@ZillaBlitz

I don't have the original but given that they've changed the original map, added a new map, added a lot of cards, redone the components and the rulebooks, and added a fourth player, to upgrade the game it almost feels like they'd have to replace 90% of the stuff from the original. :) That'd be cool to have a truck like that to drive around. I can't imagine it's good on fuel, though. :)

I presume you were granted a copy of KeRRtR. If you want to buy a copy from Phalanx, their site takes to their Gamefound/Kickstarter PM 🤔. The fact that my three best WW2 grognards and I can all play coop is brilliant. I will be bearing the brunt of Jerry as Monty. Great review, and being a Logstics kinda gamer, I was drawn in like someone yelled "Mail Call"! Looking forward to the other two videos. The Baron of Belgium. Hmm, It's not quite as flashy as Viscount of Alamein, but we serve his HRH as ordered.😂

@ZillaBlitz 4 ай бұрын
I was a bit confused at first too, but their website store mentions that the Kickstarter system is what they use for direct store orders, so you just "Add to Pledge" and place orders that way. :) I'm thinking for the playthrough I might play both sides in a 2-player Race to the Rhine, Monty vs. Bradley, British vs. Americans. :)

It really seems like they've made a strong effort to improve the original, which sounds like it was already quite good. I really appreciate the fact that they've even balanced out the gameplay a bit too.

What happened to General Courtney Hodges, the Commander that actually won that race???

Looking at the historical order of battle now, it does seem like the game has taken some creative license in how they've organized things.

We could expand the game in its next iteration. Put in a Hodges counter or even a Mac Arthur Counter. To add challenge, put in a counter for an incompetent like Stillwell. Hodges was actually supposed to be the Commander for the final battle of Japan, either Olympic or Coronet, but Japan had already surrendered.
