When I think about all the sponsor videos I’ve seen, I can’t help but think Worksharp hit the lotto with Mr. Siers. What a sick video for showing a product. Cinematography was on point. I mean you can take multiple clips out of this one video and have so many killer commercials. Way to crush it Jeremy. Just Bravo.

Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night kzfaq.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

I like that this video is very straightforward about manual sharpening. I fooled around with several manual stones for years, and with only indifferent results. I finally realized that as just a normal cook and household knife user that I was never going to be able to maintain the skill set required to produce a uniform and consistent angle on the blade edge. I then acquired a Lansky set for $25 and have had sharp knives ever since.

I’ve got the first Precision Adjust and love it. After the get done with the ceramic, I’ve got 3 strops with progressively finer compounds loaded and get almost a mirror finish. It definitely helps to refine the edge. Thanks for the great video.

Same here - I carry either a pocket knife, a neck knife, or if I am dressed, a knife on the belt every day. (Carried horizontal just off front center. - Due to a dad-belly, it conceals really well there!)

best sharpening system for the price by a mile. Own several super steel blades, M390, CPM-20cv, S110v, puts a mirror polish on all of em in 15 min. Couple of tips, theres an ebay guy sells a brace to hold the clamp arm even more steady for $12. Use water on the blade while sharpening. For a mirror edge put Flitz polish on the leather, and watch in a few passes as a mirror edge forms... Also, leave a note to write down your angles for each knive, so next time it's not reprofiling just touching up. 17 deg works best for most my edges. It will also do karambit style curved blades....

Read instructions. To properly shapen the knife you are to draw the diamond stone from blade heel to blade tip in one motion while sliding it toward you through the motion. This creates an even and consistent burr along the lower edge. When you feel the burr along the whole edge, flip and repeat the process. Back and forth sawing motion will not give a desired result. I own this system along with wet stones, strops, etc, and you can achieve a very sharp edge with it when used correctly. Great video, just looking to help others who may be following. Cheers!

Every knife I own I sharpen in a different way, usually. Because of the steel, cut, bevel. Cost. Ect. But this type of sharpening system will do any type of knife on the planet due to one thing. BEVEL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the single, first and most important thing when sharpening any knife, axe, blade. Or machete. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over time, most people will be able to keep a bevel when sharpening by hand if you do it enough and understand how that works. God knows I've learned the hard way. I learned the most and best from my GRANDFATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That system really is fantastic. I have the single rod with 3 stones, the original one that came out. I’ve owned it for several months, maybe a year at this point? It kicks some serious ass! Pocket knives, folders, fixed blades, kitchen knives, I’ve sharpened everything with it and haven’t had a single issue yet. SO WORTH THE MONEY! Keep killing it, Jeremy. 🤘🏻

Very nice! I’ve learned to use a wet stone a long time ago, mainly for my chefs knives. But for my EDC knives this might be a good one. As for the everyday carrying a pocket knife; I live in the Netherlands and although it’s legal to have a pocket knife on you, there are many rules. The blade cannot pop out automatically (don’t know the correct word) like a stiletto. Something like a PM2 is fine though, and the knife in total cannot be longer then 20cm. And of course you can not take it with you in a bar or club. There’s a bit of a problem now in some places with you people carrying knives, so I believe the minimum age is 18 years now. For these reasons I keep mine in my backpack, which I usually carry with me, especially when I’m working.

Well, that totally sucks you can't carry a knife there with those goofy rules. I've seen homeless guys walking with machetes and big blade survival knives here where I'm from. But this is Arizona, the "Wild-Wild West." However, some states, like New Mexico, have stricter knife laws than gun laws. Weird, huh?

Stumbled onto your channel earlier this week researching some whiskeys (thanks for the Redbreast 12 rec!) and am pleasantly surprised to see this review on here as well. Sadly someone just bought me the Lansky 5-Stone system, but I might have to find a reason to return that and upgrade. This Work Sharp unit looks dope! Side note - Always fun to point out that a sharp knife is a SAFE knife. Have taught a couple dozen Cub Scouts knife safety, and it's super counterintuitive to tell 3rd graders that they should only use sharp knives, but it really is true. Great video!

That thing is nice! I’ve always loved Worksharp products, I have most of their other sharpeners. As with other guided sharpeners, the only user dependent operation for a razor edge is a consistent pressure used for each side.

I just worked on a Bugout today...they are nice little EDC blades...put on Ti scales and gave it the spa treatment...that little system is about as close to a budget KME as you can get and still get consistent results...wider stones would definitely add to the longevity...but it's not intended for pro use, so I understand why they aren't wider...don't buy scales from Flytanium, their QC is terrible...had to do a lot of mill work on them to get the liners to go into them and drill out the hole for the liner retention screw on both scales...good video....got a new sub

Will have to put one of these on the wish list for sure. I too carry pocket knives daily. Always have 2 on me. Back right pocket is for the daily beater, a Kersahw Ferrite, not the greatist steel, but get's those daily tasks done! Front right pocket is virtually always a Great Eastern flavored unit. Love the 1095 baby! The typical one is my Aqua Camel Bone Tooth Pick. However, currently carrying a new Kershaw, the Federalist in CPM154. Gotta say, this one is nice & light, sweet knife!

Its a shame these types of systems never go up to the higher grits. The grits should be further apart and go up a lot further. I do 400/1000/3000 and while I will eventually get a 600 and a 2000 to fill in the gaps it works well.

Take this from someone who owns or owned every sharpening system out there or it seemed like it. Buy yourself a good set of wet stones. I prefer shapton but that’s my preference. They will last longer than any power sharpening system out there! Not to mention you are learning a very very valuable skill that at the end of the day does not require any electricity
@JeremySiers
@JeremySiers 2 жыл бұрын
This isn’t a powered system. Only power behind this baby is you hand 😉. This thing should last years. Very similar to a stone the angle is just locked for so you can get a crazy sharp knife without a lot of practice. I do agree learning a good ole wet stone if a valuable skill though. 👍🏻

My only gripe is once you drop below 20° and you're working with a thinner blade profile the clamp actually gets in the way. Other than that, the system works. I've sharpened a lot of knives to hair popping sharp relatively quickly, and I am 100% a novice.

Been using the Worksharp Ken Onion belt thing but Its a little weird and doesn’t always reach all parts of the blade and requires special care on angle hold even if using the roller guide. May try this instead of getting more Spyderco ceramic stones. I had the Lansky many many years ago but it was slow due to the small size of the stones and the blade clamp sucked. Thank you Jeremy!

The only thing I really don't like about it is that it won't sharpen right up to the plunge grind because the rounded corners of the triangle hit it. If the stones went all the way to the edge or were thicker/tall enough to stand the plastic up over the plunge grind it would be way better. But it's still good and it's what I use to sharpen my knives..

I've had a knife of some sort in my pocket every day for 30 years. I feel naked without it. I've left for work in my bedroom mocs but never forgotten my knife. It wouldn't matter, I have 2 in my console lol. (random comment/algorithm etc)
