I'm going to teach you how to keep YOUR OCD HOSTAGE. I want you to feel like the boss. You've always had all the power, now is the time to recognize it.

What are you going to do to keep your OCD hostage? 🤪

I'm four months into ERP/recovery work , thoughts still come but anxiety has mostly reduced. The video is spot on, as you do ERP OCD changes its storylines to try keep you in fear, but no matter what it tells you just do ERP for it. As you get stronger and anxiety reduces OCD then twists the story to, you have the thoughts but your not anxious so that must mean that the thoughts are real ... This is where I'm at now, it is hard but as Nathan says you just have to keep doing ERP even for the "what if it's not OCD" OCD. Hopefully one day soon I'll finally beat this thing. But I can honestly say this video is very very accurate as to how OCD works. Keep up the excellent work you do for us Nathan. Thank you.

Fantastic video! I completely agree. Even as I write this, my OCD is hitting me with thoughts that make me feel very uncomfortable, trying to keep me hostage to it's tortuous ways. But again, after seeing this video, I just had to smile because of how much myself and I'm sure others with OCD can relate to this. It's amazing how our "OCD minds" can get creative at keeping us wrapped up in fear, hard to escape it's grasp. It's the combination of both the intellectual part mixed with the dynamic depths of emotion that make OCD so damn convincing. It creates almost an alternate, convincing reality which is part of why people that don't really understand mental illness (in this case OCD) can fully understand what's happening. If it was so easy not to do this, or don't worry about that, etc etc etc.... People wouldn't even know what the term OCD is, because it wouldn't exist. Anyways, love your videos. Great stuff man! Very helpful!! Thank you. :D

I’ve had crippling social anxiety, and a mean voice in my head that tells me everyone is paying attention to me or everyone is out to get me and I get stuck in an intense guilt and shame loop so when I found your videos it was life changing for me. I started trying exposure and response therapy and to my delight it has worked amazingly!!! It’s given me my power back! It’s given me my confidence back and released me from the chains of guilt! Great video. Currently about every 4th thought I have is a question that is fueled by doubt in someway or another. Sometimes it’s every 2 thoughts, and sometimes it’s one doubtful thought after another and this happens maybe 30 times a day. It very rarely stops. To anyone else severely struggling I hope you can healthily distract yourself, that’s what I’m practicing!

Sometimes it feels like getting better from my ocd is scary because it makes me feel like I'll be losing a big piece of me! Or losing my identity! I've identified with perfection for so long and felt as though I was able to achieve perfection in most parts of my life for years (which makes me question if I even have ocd) but as the years went on, after high school real life set in and things happened, such as, I became overweight for the first time in my life, I lost alot of hair from trichotillomania, I didnt end up going to college like i thought...and so nothing felt perfect anymore or the way I thought it would be. OCD really hates to accept change. It makes me hate myself when things dont the way I want them to.

Sometimes I wonder endlessly if it's not just my intuition telling me to listen. But then, I'm afraid. Which leads me back again to asking if it's fear or just the intuition that I'm trying not to listen to. That's when the trouble usually starts. Then I think, well, I should have listened to the warning signal. But sometimes, it IS just imagination.

I have heard that the key is to do the exposure as long as it takes for your anxiety level to peak. After that it will start to come down, and that's when your brain will start to learn that all that anxiety isn't needed. This is way easier said than done but I hope it helps, God bless

A lot of times I say that we don't need to be "ready" to do hard things. OCD wants people to feel ready; it just doesn't happen. Most of the time if there is a plan in place or a hierarchy the person can be successful just jumping in.

I'm sorry for what you're going through! Your counselor can't help if they don't know. If they are an OCD therapist, they should know what your experience. Treat it as an exposure to tell your counselor. It's for you, not them. 😃

I relate to the part where i started my ERP and my ocd starts to doubt the treatment, the doubt that i may lose control, the doubt of ocd itself. I try to not resist it and im still learning

This is ocd and I’ve had the same thoughts. Talk to God and then do exposures. Don’t listen to it. God bless and help you in Jesus name 🙏

Tw might trigger someone Does anyone else’s ocd try to justify the thoughts or the thing your worrying about cause u say I’m a good person but then it says oh so pedos are good people then? And I hate it so much pls tell me someone relates, it hurts because I wish I just had the intrusive thoughts like I used to because now I realise how easy it is to get over the thoughts but now I get feelings that come with it, like I can’t sleep because my ocd has attached the feeling of comfort to an intrusive thought and it’s literally one thought that it’s attached to and I hate it, I feel like no one talks about this and I’m losing hope because this doesn’t feel like ocd, I cry every single day and i get so tired and my body wants comfort but I can’t get it because I know what’s going to happen, they say use exposure but with this it is so hard because it feels like I like it or something and I don’t, I had a big dream and this has ruined it, I literally can’t hold on anymore I’m only 16 and this shit has ruined my whole life, my therapist said that distorted thought turn into distorted feelings but I’m still so confused can someone help

i understand what you mean and i think we’re both going through along with many others, do you feel no anxiety with a thought that comes to your mind? i have that too right now i have a lot of evil thoughts about other people and i don’t get much anxiety or any at all but it still bothers me deeply. i don’t think just because you Don’t have anxiety when a “bad” thought comes to mind that you believe it or agree with it. i try to not let the thought/feeling absorb me but that’s a lot harder said than done but let’s keep fighting this, you’re not alone!!

@@allli3_756 yeah totally, a lot of the time I kind of feel like there’s nothing there when I get the thoughts and I have to physically freak out to actually get some anxiety there, tbh I can’t believe it’s been 2 months already since writing that comment, feeling like I’m wasting my life by worrying about this stuff, has this happened to you where having this and staying alert all the time even without realising it has become the norm and it feels like when you get out of it doesn’t feel right, I feel like I can only be happy if I get relief from compulsions now idk is that for you too?
