Here we have a quick look at just how much noise guinea fowl make. www.courtfarmchickens.co.uk

I have a breeding pair of guinease who sleep in the chicken coop with 3 chooks and roam during the day, I also have 12 living in a huge 3.5m high cage with high roosts, they free range during the day as well, returning to their cage at sunset. And the one guinea who defies all guinea traits - LP - sleeps in a cage in the lounge room, and hangs outside in the chicken run while they are free ranging during the day. LP like cuddles and pats, and will sit on my leg or arm while we watch movies, or under my chair while I work on the laptop. Yes, they are loud - when they need to be there is a decidedly insistent tone - like when a snake or eagle is about, or a strange vehicle. And they eat thousands of ticks every day. I also have lyre birds nesting on my property, and they imitate the sounds they hear, and often i hear phone or alarm sounds coming from the bush - and they also imitate the guinea sounds too!

Interesting, my ginis go sleep with chickens, they go to coop when called, are quiet mostly, unless fox is around, lay eggs only in nests with in coop, they are extremely heavy and unable to fly properly so i need to make ladders for them to climb on high places. All squeamish ones were killed off by fox, so only most docile remained, and they reproduced, so now i ended up with some sort of natural selection docile ginis. Panicking and flying off away from safety killed rest.

That's really interesting, be great if they all behaved like that as they are beautiful birds.

@@CourtFarmChickens i would say they are extremely ugly with their weird czarnobyl like heads and wrinkled helmet horns, but i assume you can kinda docile them out with giving them special treats and keeping them with other birds(like chickens and ducks) they seem to mimic calm behaviors of other birds. It is harder since they evolved with us, and their natural predators were humans, so they have natural build in fear of human like figures.

@@maleficent3333 I have one living inside the house for the last 16 months. He sleeps in a cage in the lounge room, and likes pats and snuggles - I find him beautiful, and now I find all of them beautiful - like tiny cassowaries!

they do love snuggles yes, they seem like one of those birds who enjoy physical contact, duck on the other hand, are exact opposite

I was wanting to get 4 or 5 to keep the ticks down in my yard. But now I guess not...

I love guinea fowl! Best bug getters on the planet! I just don’t have trees so they just take off and become coyote food. :(

I have a male and female guinea in my flock of chickens. The female, no exaggeration loudly from about 11-4 does that ‘muck-rack muck-rack muck-rack….’ Consistently. There’s no pause, not 10 minutes of silence. Is this normal? To say she’s been driving us crazy for a year is an understatement.
@maleficent33332 жыл бұрын
She's calling for other females/members of flock, but nobody respond since she's alone female.

do they shout on night time?
@CourtFarmChickens Жыл бұрын
They are generally quite at night but if they are disturbed or spot a threat then they will sound the alarm.

Meanwhile I have seen several vids about this and others beg to differ. How come keeping ducks and geese is normal but not Guinea Fowl ?? I have someone keeping peacocks streets away from me and I still can clearly hear them.

ghuinea fowl are more wild i guess....
@cherryfresh61503 жыл бұрын
@@darkmistico It is called less domesticated as chickens are. If they are not raised as a chick with chickens they want to dominate seeing them as competition. To the point they will kill the rooster. Coming from a place where it is kill or to be killed it is a matter of survival to them.

What are the benefits of keeping them? Do you think they’re worth it?
@CourtFarmChickens3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your set up and environment but yes worth it if you can provide the space. They are great at finding and eating all the ticks in a field which is great for sheep keepers
