My oldest Betta suffered a very aggressive fungus that was very difficult for me to eradicate. She got dropsy as a result, but I actually was able to help reverse it. It's taking a long time for her fins to heal because fins have very little blood flow. I'm just glad I didn't put her down, otherwise I never would have known that she could recover. Betta fish are tough little creatures!

Inspiring !!!! may i know more about the treatment of dropsy or whatever u did? i happen have lost 3 bettas this far and sadly all ended up having dropsy , no matter whatever i do dropsy always seems to catch up to my bettas i dont want my present betta to end up having the same

Rocky is moving to his 9.2 gallon BiOrb Tube tank today from his 4 gallon BiOrb (I didn’t know it was too small - will keep it on hand as an infirmary). I know many seem to hate BiOtbs but I feel safer with acrylic and I adapted the filter so I can use gravel. Really works well. Anyway, he won’t eat frozen bloodworms or the special brine shrimp I got for him. I’m growing brine shrimp to see if he’ll eat them. He LOVES egg yolk - drying some for him now. These fish are so intelligent and responsive - the way many keep them is really unconscionable. He produces so little waste, I do a 25% water change about every 2 weeks. I test his water frequently and ph and ammonia are spot on. Actually, if ammonia levels are non existent, do I need to test Nitrites and Nitrates? Thanks for your great channel!

I had two bettas out of the rest that lived at least two good years. I took good care of them by putting them in five or ten gallon tanks with good filtration, feeding them different food with protein, fiber, and spiruluna with some vitamins added to their food and water. I made sure they had their leaf pads, hammocks, silk plants, and some decor to rest, lay on, and enjoy adventuring in their tanks. I noticed that a few of my bettas would get fin rot. I make sure the water is clean and gravel cleaned about four or five weeks in their ten gallon tanks. I always use Betta Tap conditioner when putting in fresh water. I use Seacham Stress Coat and StressZyme when adding water in their tanks. I am trying to figure out what make them get the fin rot? The water is not cold or too warm. I told myself I should put heaters in each of their tanks.

You are awesome betta keeper knows what to do. Don’t see any flaws. Usually fungal or bacterial infections cause finrot, primarily due to water quality. Have you tried water test kit during this process, Any observations on water quality? Low temperature cause stress that results finrot as well.

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes I try my best to keep my bettas healthy and happy! I have three new bettas that arrived this week. So far, they are doing well. I put these flat thermometers on the glass of their tanks. The temperature of the water in their tanks is 82 degrees. I have heaters, which I will put in their tanks. I did not use thermometers and heaters for my previous bettas. I checked the parameters, and it is fine. I will put some almond leaves in their tanks.

Very nice Video! The only thing I disagree with you is the minimum size of the tank. I would say 5 gallons are still to small. 6 Gallons are the absolute minimum in my opinion. But that‘s just a small disagreement. All in all everything you said is absolutely correct! ❤

5 gallons is generally considered the minimum, but to me it’s the bare bare minimum, with ten gallons being ideal Double the volume for greater stability and more space for them to roam around

I personally would never keep fish under 20 Gallon. And I think Bettas need more space and will be more happy in bigger tanks. Unfortunately a lot people don't Care and think 5 Gallon is enough. I think this is animal cruelty

70 is a bit low, but using a small 25-50watt uvb reptile halogen lamp as aquarium light source or additional light may provide enough extra heat and comfortable place in the warm surface light for the fish.

Sounds good so far. I would also get a heater and a filter for your tank. Plus something for the betta to hide in. I have a ceramic cave for mine that they sometimes sleep in. And before I forget, the plants, try to get live plants as they help with the fish waste. Anubius is a good beginner plant. My one betta likes to sleep on the leaves. 🙂

Bit late but I agree with the previous comment, though have a couple notes Make sure the filter isn’t too strong, a sponge filter works best Using a ceramic pot is a great idea but be sure to plug the hole so they don’t get stuck And anubias and java fern are great beginner plants but they need to be attacked to driftwood or rocks and won’t grow if you try planting them, unless you leave the rhizome (the green horizontal stem) uncovered As for water changes, use a gravel vac to remove 20-30% of the water every week, and remember to use dechlorinated when refilling

3 litres is small for Betta fish. Changing water frequency depends on what setup you have. If you have a filter, some natural plants it will help to reduce water change frequency. Also what type of food you feed matters as well. I have a similar setup for my betta grow-out tanks(they like for 4 weeks there before selling). I change water every two days, feed only live food. Change to a bigger tank if you have the option, so that you can change 50% of the water weekly and do a full tank cleaning once a month. Happy Betta keeping!

Great question. Feed right quantity. Use sand instead of gravel and try siphon cleaner to remove wastes periodically. Do more partial water changes.

Add a house plant that likes to grow its roots in water: pothos, peace lily, monstera,spider plant (without soil). The above water plants are more efficient in cleaning the water of excess nitrates & nutrients . I don’t use any filters, and I don’t need to do regular water changes, Many plants (inside and above the aquariums) do the job. Right amount of fish & fish food in the tank is also important to keep the water clear. 😊 And more Plant plants plants 🌱 🪴 🎋🎍

Fin rot is either bacterial or fungal. I dealt with that a long time trying to cure it as a bacterial condition, but it ended up actually being fungal, which required different treatment. When bacterial treatment didn't work, I added red root duckweed, and it grew fungus rapidly. That was a good way to diagnose the issue.

I think that for sellers it's naturally that betta is placed in a small place. Bettas are usually sold in large quantities I can't imagine the seller using a 5 gallon tank for every Betta he sells.

5 gallon is recommended, especially since a higher water quantity means less maintenance of the water quality. It's not as large and difficult to fit in your home as it may sound.
