Keep It Simple Sparkles

Күн бұрын

WE ARE GETTING INTO IT TODAY! When we have items that already fit in the cabinets, we are 60% less likely to get rid of them simply because the cabinet door shuts. We have so much on our plates and most of the a task like this doesn’t feel necessary because the space doesn’t feel like it’s hindering our lives.… But it is.
Seeing overcrowded cabinets every day can cause boosts in cortisol, a.k.a. the stress hormone, and really affect our mental health even though the cabinet shuts.
We justify keeping it because we may use it again and that can be an overwhelming thought to break free of.
But is keeping it worth your mental health or worse the cost of a bigger home to store it? Start today, purge what you don’t need or use to make room for the items you do use!
Oh!! The comfies im wearing are by @halara_official and I’m obsessed!
Thanks for watching! Like + follow along for more simple tips!

Seriously!! And I'm a stay at home mom with 2 kids, and my husband only earned $40k a year. Throwing away or donating away stuff that we can use feels so wasteful to me. I hate having so much stuff, though!! And it's come in handy so many times when I have to hobble together a Halloween costume, or patch a favorite stuffed animal...

My sewing room is outside in its own shed. I'm here because I'm slowly doing all my other rooms and completely ignoring the elephant on the block which is my she shed 😂 I can't even go out there to sew anything because it's so dysfunctional and I'm shared of spiders. What's the point of even having a sewing room if the state of it is so overwhelming it can't even be used? I'm dreading it.

@@noth9617I totally relate to this as my craft room is “in a state” I was crafting in my living room for years because my actual craft room was filled to overflowing. I stopped crafting rather than declutter it because I definitely have use for all the things, right? I’m still working on it…I hope to get back to creating soon! 🤞🏽

I was drowning in our old house. There was so much clutter that I could never seem to get the house clean no matter how much time I spent every day cleaning. When we moved, we decluttered a LOT. I feel like I regained my sanity. Everything has a place now and if it doesn't have a permanent place yet, it will shortly. All I have is one box left to find places for the things or get rid of them and then I get to move on to organizing things a little better. I feel like once I organize everything, our home will finally reach homeostasis for the first time in years.

Well, I don't know if the stress/stuff level thing is scientific, but it is very true for me! My stress levels are much higher when I have too much stuff. And when there is not enough room to 'shove and hide', things pile up outside the cupboards. Never thought I would get to the point where tidying and cleaning is enjoyable, lol. One thing I noticed was also, the 'prettier' the cupboard is when I open it, the less stressed/the more joy. And the more you want to keep it that way. You would think that a space behind a closet door wouldn't need to be pretty - but just knowing it decreases stress as well. :)

I just decluttered about 4 large moving boxes worth of stuff out of my home office, and it felt so good. I have room to keep out in the open all of the stuff I actually use. Most people make the mistake of starting by putting things into boxes/bins and putting those on the shelves first. My tip is to take everything out of a space and put back the stuff you use the most first, then you'll reach a point where you run out of room or start realizing you don't really use/need certain things.

The next year I made my peace with the waste of money and donated almost all of it. With clothing If I did not wear it last season I probably will not wear it this season. Now that does not mean I throw out my raincoat because I didn't have to go out in the rain. But If I have an unusable pair of shoes(they hurt my feet or are not in style for what I bought them for)they go to second hand store if they are relatively new or trash if they have staining. same with other items. If I bought a plant pot that did not get used second hand store broken trash. The only clothes I keep no matter what is Funeral wear. Those shoes and clothes may never be worn for years at a time. I keep a brushed velvet floor length skirt and a cream colored blouse for funerals and 2 dresses for viewings so I do not have to wear the same thing the next day. I have 2 pairs of Black knit cotton pants, 2 colored pairs of pants also knit cotton and 2 t-shirts that match(I use my Cricut to make t-shirts) 2 pairs of Yoga type pants without pockets and 2 pairs of French Terry cotton pants with French Terry sweat shirts that match and 2 French Terry sweat shirts that match other colors in my wardrobe That my Sister-in-law bought me. I have 5 pairs of Pajamas from Suzanne Charles of England(best jammies all cotton). At thus point all of my clothes are about 2 years old because our house had a gas explosion that could have easily killed us all but my husband and I and our dog all git out alive. I spent 36 hours in the burn unit and my husband spent another day before he was released our dog was sent to animal control then my husband's boss got him out for us and took him to his brother's kennel. he had to turn right around and go back to get him from his brother so I could have him back. Because he went to animal control with no shot records(he did have his Rabies Tag on his collar) they gave him every kind of shot and preventative they could which made him sick so we had a sick dog on top of every thing else. Our Vet gives him his shots in cycle because he gets sick when they give him everything at once and the animal control had no choice because they got him very early in the morning of the fire so they could not contact his Vet. We are all healed and Insurance was really great. People keep your insurance paid! You have NO IDEA how much replacements might cost house car and all clothing.

I'm not sure I understand the comment about a woman's trust level. Like, she's not trustworthy if she has more stuff? Or, she's unable to trust other people if she's got more stuff? Neither of those explanations makes any sense to me.

@KeepItSimpleSparkles, I have trouble getting rid of things even though they haven’t been used in x amount of time because a)we really DON’T have enough money to buy anything in replacement, b) I find my clothes at garage sales and thrift shops and sometimes they don’t fit right away but the following year they are just what I need. I have been changing my lifestyle and lost 80 lbs over the past few years with hopes of losing more. However, I had some issues and I recently regained about 10 lbs and several inches and now wish I had kept some of the clothes I just got rid of. Were also using some kitchen items we hadn’t used in ages because we’re eating differently and cooking more. I know we have too much clutter and it’s bothering us but it’s very hard to figure out what to get rid of as we have a few other unusual but hopefully temporary situations going on. Those involve things like needing more bedding etc than I would have otherwise, and there’s no room for the extra quantity of both types of bedding, if that makes sense. I have trouble with the clothing thing because I seem to be a different size or shape frequently and have lived on a lot of gratefully accepted hand me downs or thrifted clothing as mentioned…oftentimes I find that I have a shirt or sweater that I love, but not the appropriate necessary under layer(camisole or tank top or whatever)because mine has the wrong neckline or doesn’t fit or something. I also have to have more clothes than I would like to keep due to the amount of outdoor dirty work I have where I live. I would love to purge more things in many areas but I do crafting for myself and my church and I have been given supplies for that yet my health has kept me from using it at times, and sometimes it’s just too hard to get it when I need it. I just don’t know what the future holds in many areas. I’m also a book lover and I have a number of books that I haven’t yet read, or have read but would like to reread and I may be unable to do the crafts I love due to health, in not-too-distant future. Truthfully, I began purging my craft studio and trying to organize it to make it work better for me, and it made a big mess. Then a lot of major unexpected changes have happened in my life and I have been stuck, too overwhelmed, too busy with other big life things, and have added more to the mess in the meantime. I am working on it again but I need some suggestions for how I can make wise decisions for decluttering in these areas, knowing that I cannot just buy whatever I need to do things, no matter how little the cost? I realize that this is costing in other ways but I don’t know what to do differently. I’d be grateful for your help.

I have difficulty disposing of things because there are times when I wish that I had something I have donated or thrown away. One thing that I'm going to try to do is to sell some of the things that I don't currently use and at least I can use that money to pay down my debt, or keep in savings, and then if I need that item again and I know I will use it long-term I will buy another one or even a used one! That would be a total recycle wouldn't it?😅
