All amazing tips! I could drive 73mph with my popup. It was the perfect speed. With my travel trailer being 7k lbs and a 1 ton SRW truck. I still only do 65mph. It shocks me here on Utah roads hope fast people go. I recently saw a KZfaq person here that was towing 80mph and he said “no one else should do this because I have experience.” I commented and told him how unsafe that was.

I've crossed the border to and from Haines several times during my 20 years in Alaska. I've always found it amusing that the border is closed overnight. It's like hanging a sign that says "Welcome to the United States! We're Closed Right Now!"

On our last trip out to New Mexico (Cosmic Camp Ground) I was in the process of disconnecting our TH and forgot to chuck the wheels.. well, I was on a small hill and once the hitch release from the truck, the trailer fell a foot down bending the electric jack and making the trailer go backwards a good 6; feet with my wife and kids INSIDE!!! I had a mini hard attack but luckily it stop from going much further down. Now I take my take and a good breather before setting up at any camp.

When we bought our first rig, I bought a throw pillow that reads, "I'm sorry for the things I said while we were parking the camper" just as a preemptive grace for frustrations while getting parked... it gives us something to laugh about.

To make your trailer tires last longer; get each wheel balanced.

Loved the video! I completely agree about the 350 miles and no night driving for road trips, but for single destination trips, we often leave after work, drive late and go to a pullthrough known campground, then finish the trip the next morning. 10000% percent agree about winter camping. My truck is even a RWD, so this pavement princess doesn't leave the garage in the winter!!

I see you are planning on going through Indiana - I recommend Turkey Run and Shades State parks (they are close to each other) beautiful canyons- not the landscape you expect in Indiana. Though many of those trails have ladders- so maybe not the best with the dog.

Happy New Year, y'all! We've done most of these. The walk around but not looking up cost us a TV antenna. The poopsey was hilarious but totally disgusting. We had a jerk walk past our trailer and pull the black-water tank handle out. This was while we were shopping in a Walmart. Fortunately, I spotted it when we returned, closed the valve and went on our way. We stopped at the RV Park dump station before parking and took care of it to avoid a nasty mess at the camp site. Now I check everything whenever we park to shop just in case there's another jerk. Winter camping: been there, done that, thanks but no thanks. It was work related but still - no way, Jose! Safe travels in 2024! Thanks for sharing your ideas and experiences. They are much appreciated!

Great video. Funny how many of these (almost all) I’ve learned as well in my first months full timing. Another thing I do before unhooking is make sure the power is actually working at the site. I don’t use those terms when I back up because it’s just me, no spotter, and it’s awful. But I keep trying and I keep getting better. 😃👍🏻
