Advanced/All-Star Strictly Swing Finals at Austin Swing Dance Championships (ASDC) in Austin, TX.
This is West Coast Swing, a fully improvised dance. For this competition, we got to choose our partners, but we did not know what song we would get.

I had no idea what west coast swing was until YT randomly suggested one of your vids to me and in the past couple days I’ve watched ALL and subbed. I saw this first on a short video. Now this is a longer version. And it's just the coolest thing ever. I love the moves and the music (what is that fabulous song?). It's amazing to not know someone and dance like you've partnered for years. I love the way she pulls the rope, and he slides along like he's on glass. I wish I could learn to dance like this because it makes me so happy just watching them. It has to be pretty wonderful to dance like this as if you were born doing it. I'm going to watch again and again and again. Oh and if someone can please tell me the name of that song, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can see the improvement in your adaptability with each competition. The only critique I can give is to have a little more FUN when you dance with your various partners. Your moves are consistent with previous competition videos you have done. I don't think we have really seen YOUR true abilities and personality through your dances yet. LET LOOSE AND HAVE SOME FUN WITH YOUR PARTNER AND THE AUDIENCE!

really brilliant performance! Any woman who dances with him pretty much has the prize in the bag! This girl is wonderful however I think her bare feet held her up just a little bit from being as smooth as she could be. It's definitely there it just seems like her feet stuck a couple times when they should have slid. Even if there's a cover on there I can't see it's just not quite slippery enough and she is so graceful and has so much talent she doesn't need something little like that making a difference when it can be fixed instantly.

Are there any women leads? I feel like I would naturally lean that way. 🤗 I'm about to play with basic 101 videos, because I am seriously considering getting into this at age 57. I have neck and back issues, but I am fully mobile because I stay active and don't let pain drive me into painkillers or a wheelchair. I feel like dancing as movement therapy (along with my yoga practice) would be so beneficial, even if I never want to compete. Thanks for sharing. This all popped up randomly but I am loving. Just subbed your channel. 💖💃🏻

That’s amazing! It’s never too late to start. There are certainly women leads. If you look up these people you can find some amazing examples: Skylar Pritchard, Samantha Buckwalter, Jade Bryan, Erica Smith. You’ll have to dig around for their leading videos (they all lead AND follow), but they’re all incredible at both roles! And ultimately this is a SOCIAL dance. Some of us compete to drive ourselves to be better dancers, but ultimately we’re all in it for the social dancing and fun. :)

@@keeriganruddWCSWhat would you say is the strongest indication of who’s going to lead the dance? I’m just a social dancer haha and when I grab a partner to dance I just sometimes feel it’s an automatic thing, like you know as soon as you start. But I was wondering if in pro cases where there’s a competition, it just FEELS right to be the follow or lead with that person or if you actually agree or discuss it before it begins?

@jsophiamm in competition you have to sign up as either a lead or a follow and stick with that for that entire competition. In social dancing you just tell your partner what you’d like to do.
