Nuno MPC yes from this test it is the clear winner for my ears too, sold the kefs this afternoon. I am happy I had my money back and could make a few movies with them. Still have the review from the kefs to come, when i have time to edit it.

I understand they are basically the same quality if not better than the entry level reference series. Can't wait to hear them. Too bad both Mission and Wharfedale are made in China now. You can see the cheapness in their newest stuff.

I feel like they have nice tweeters, but the mid- mid bass is weak. Have you any experience with this model? I'm curious to hear your opinion.

i have now the canton karat 709 dc. Better sounding because more complete sound including a very nice bass. new list price was for both speakers the same, 2000 euro a pair and in the shops about 1200/1400 a pair. Secondhand price today is 400 for the cantons and 500 for the kefs a pair in the Netherlands. about sound there can not be a discussion, I love more the sound of the cantons but another would have different taste. About the building quality there is a very clear winner and that is canton. The frontholders from these kefs where still intact but most of the holes these front holder pins fit in where missing plastic material so they where already degenerating for a unknown reason. I am not sure how thick the material(i believe mdf) the kefs are made from but when you knock with your knuckles on the cantons almost every part of that speaker sound massive, that's not the case with the kefs. second, the kefs are finished with very cheap adhesive plastic, they didn't even made them from real wood veneer. Often this adhesive plastic get bubbles after a while(ore maybe when they come out the factory). The cantons are finished with piano lacquer what give them a far more distinguish look over the kefs. Not only is this piano lack finish more easy to repair once it would get damaged but it is even harder to get damaged as a very thin layer of adhesive plastic. The canton weight 26.5 kilo against the kefs 18.3 kilo thats almost a third more. In the past when kef was still in english hands they made some very outstanding speakers but the q11 is far from outstanding when you compare it with the same priced cantons. The cantons are made in Germany and that's the difference with the chinese designed and built kefs. German craftsmanship is still on top of the world and when you place these speakers next to each other it's very clear that this statement didn't came out of the blue air.....and yes I also think that the kefs looks great on pictures but once you have them in front of you, only then you will notice its shortcomings.

Magnat have an artificial timbre and lose an important range of sounds... due to the hights sounding in higher range. MANY instruments & sounds in the middle-low area compared to Kef's are lost. I think you have a bad ear. At 5:39 you can hear the KEFs ....all the harmonic range and depth of the beat of the drums.... are OK. Plenty of sounds... that are LOST automatically when passing to the sound of the Magnat... the drum is heard flat and the guiro is heard like a cricket.

You must actually test speakers with a human voice For example, a singing woman

@@rodrigoald8246 i think YOU have a bad hear. Magnat offer presence, you hear anything. While the KEF swallows many mid frequencys making many details cpmletely silent or even overtone them with other frequencys. Voices will sound tiny on them. Guitars will be muddy and silent. Snare drums won`t have impact. Also you should keep in mind you cant compare speakers through a video. I actually have Magnat Zero Speakers and i HAD Kef speakers. I sent the KEF back and stayed with the Magnat. Also KEF has no Quality controll. They sent me a factory sealed package with Q350. They were brocken from factory. Smashed in membrane. Mechanically locked. Thats no Quality. That is a bad coworker with no love in his work and no care about anything.

I earlier reviewd the vintage kef charlton III. This old kef speaker sound better as this kef Q11. Also is this kef is built in china and in china ownership now. The building quality is bad. From a distance it looks like a really nice spaeker but when you are in front of it you see the poor quality. They didn't used real wood veneer but just adhesive plastick. Often they even do the stick job bad because there are often bubbles in the plastick, also with one of these speakers i discovered a bubble. Many of the round plastick holes for the pins of the front are bad because the platick is broken. The weight is only 18.5 kilo for a 1400 euro costing pair in the shop. A few weeks back I bought a pair canton karat 709dc who had the same 1400 euro price in the shops , no veneer but black pianolack, really beautifull craftmanship and a weight from 27.5 kilo. I agree that the kef i a very beautiful speaker but for 1400 euro there are better options with better sound and building quality. This not very popular canton sound better as this kef but on the secondhand market the kef is more expensive. Will do a review soon from this canton

No idea of this they were English made. I have an old KEF system myself. Maybe it will go up in value. I have the B139 woofer,B139 Mid and the T27 tweeter. What could they be worth, just the drivers lets say. The box isbig and no original

The Kef's are made in The UK in Kent and are the best speaker on here. The Kef's are way ahead of the other speakers in style and technology.

Simon Matthews kef is still a very good speaker but not every kef is superb. I love the kef ls50 but this kef q11 is not worth the 1400 euro-pair new price it was sold for. I recently bought the canton karat 709 dc. the cantons where built from 2006 till 2011 but the model was almost the same as the previous one with only a slightly improved tweeter. The german built cantons where sold in the shops for the same 1400 euro-pair. sound quality is personal but the cantons blow the kefs away by big length in my opinion. After i made the films from the kefs I immediately sold them. Bought them for 500 and was happy to sell them for 500. The cantons costed me 375 and will never leave my house. the kefs weigh 18.5kg and the cantons 26.5 kg. the cantons have a beautiful piano lacquer finish and the kefs cheap plastic thin veneer. not even real wood veneer. Everybody who knows history also know why the british empire became so great, their superior warships and first ones who started mass production. For years Britain doesn´t produce products better as the competition. Germans are the ones who knows to produce excellent products and often they are far ahead in technology as the rest of the world. Most britain car brands are in foreign hands, some of them in german hands. I live in the Netherlands but I always prefer a german product over any other european product, simply because they are made better and they lost longer too. The only strong english product I can think of from england is brompton but if brompton was a german brand they would have brought out new models years ago and they would be far more successful in profit than the profitable brompton today Most english car brands went under because they where to slow in bringing out new models. Kef is now for years, even before the q11 came out, in chinese hands. The hong kong based Gold Peak group is now the owner. I dont say that kef is bad because it is in chinese hands but don´t think its a british owner. Some kefs are still made in europe. Did you ever heard of International audio group? International audio group is on paper britain and have it's headquarter in huntingdon UK. Sound british he? The company is owned and run by twin Taiwanese brothers Bernard and Michael Chang. They make their speakers in China and the brands they have are Wharfedale, Quad Electroacoustics, Mission, Tag McLaren, Audiolab and Castle Acoustics and many more. Most people think when they buy a wharfedale they buy a english product......globalization on its peak, even apple produce in china but apple is a stock market company and not a family business, There are just a few, very small family business speaker companies left and those speakers are often very expensive. . We in the netherlands have philips, once a company with over 400.000 employees but today i don't know which product is real philips, the tv's still have the name but have nothing to do with philips netherlands, they sold the tv section long time ago.

The LS50 is a mint speaker but the Q-11 is now an old speaker still very good though.

YZFR VintageAudio wil replace this video soon because the recordings from the infinty went wrong, the mid drivers from the left speakers where out because of a dirty potmeter I now cleaned.

Simpleliving2697 Just discovered that the left infinity speakers mid drivers where out . So that's why they sounded so dull in the test. The potentio meter from the mids was dirty and after I cleaned it it works now. I suddenly heard a big difference between the speakers and when I checked the left speakers 2 mid drivers where out. I took away the 8 screws from the plate where the mid and treble knob are and i discovered also that behind this plate the filter is from the speaker. It is also the reason why the song from george benson i recorded with these speakers had so much disortion, because the mids where going out and on.

vintage stereo i will wait to give my opinion then till you get a chance to record the infinity speakers again. It's also possible that with the 15 inch woofer they might be a bit underpowered at 65w. They did sound dead on the mids. I don't think the kef is worth the price but they are probably acoustically optimized for modern high end AV amps and receivers. I have a mid 80s fisher setup with a pair of fisher 884 with15 inch woofers and that setup is amazing. The amp does push 110w rms and with lower watt amps I do notice a difference

vintage stereo going by that video I still think they sound better than the kef. They have a very full and rich sound to my ears with that jazz music.

Magnat Zero 7 sounds more clear, i prefer that.

What? The KEF looks like an accident. Magnat looks like a speaker. The KEF looks like an abstract modern ugly design trying to be a speaker. And as you can hear they paid more for ugly design than for acoustics. That is why Magnat wins the soundtest.

Nuno MPC You are wright again, I did the magnats as last in the test and when I heard the tweeters I thought my speaker wire was wrong connected. I never noticed this before but after you hear better tweeters you hear it very clear. It can be that the filters are old. I have here these magnats msp 120, i will test them against the zero 7
