The UK's parliamentary system shows America what can happen when elected officials are held accountable. Additionally, to hear from the head of the government, i.e. Prime Minister, announce his regrets and responsibility for the loss is truly refreshing. Degrees of magnitude above how we American voters are treated by corrupting and lying unresponsive elected federal leaders. Time will tell how effective a "progressive" orientation of UK's government will fare given its history. But the pendulum has swung.

We now have a third party almost as large as the losing ruling conservative party . Plus smaller parties emerged and no longer will the 2 big parties dominate often like in the past

@@theancientsancients1769 numbers of seats in parliament don't agree with your optimism, conservatives have more seats than all lower rankers combined. if Labour can rise back from coming 3rd, then it's possible for tories to rise from 2nd, especially when they're ahead of 3rd place by lots. I hope I'm wrong. even if they do fall, remember the liberal democrats are still around and they lost their last prime minister 102 years ago.

There are several things that I prefer about the British political system over ours. 1) the loser is out the day after the election. 2) they don't see a need for any worthless transition period. The people spoke get to work. 2) the multi party system. Our 2 party system has completely failed the American people. The only ones that win with the 2 party system are the parties and the politican. 4) lastly when the loser gives their concession speech or resigns from being Prime Minister they are out. They don't get to go back into 10 Downing; they walk away. Just my 2 cents.

No one is taking your opinion serious when you can't even count to five. But I'll still help you out. First point, it's truly moot as the time served is still the same but sure not a bad point not a good point. Two party system as failed, but in general the multi party system as failed. Britain is far more corrupt than the U.S. and many corrupt countries have multiple parties as well. We'd be better off with no aristocratic parties, and only voting on individuals. The party system has legalized bribery, which won't be removed until the party's are gone.

The UK is still pretty much a 2-party system. Sure, other parties get some representation in parliament, but Labour and the Conservatives are the only ones with any chance of forming a government. The 2010 election was a rare instance where the Conservatives needed the help of the Liberal Democrats to form a government (and it took 14 years for the Liberal Democrats to recover from that). Many other European countries are much better examples of multi-party systems.
