There was a hot dog commercial when I was growing up that had this very high energy bossy 7 year old girl who had been left in charge of her 3 year old brother and she had to make dinner for him... Kids are capable of having good palates and ‘picky eaters’ (if they don’t have ASD or something) are just the product of bad parenting. When I was a kid, I enjoyed a wide variety of foods and never ordered off the terrible children’s menus when we were out, and it was because my parents always put a variety of interesting foods in front of me and my brother and held firm if we kicked off. If we didn’t eat it, then we didn’t eat. Kids learn very quickly if they can get away with ruling the roost when it comes to food, or if they can’t.
