A Small Brass Traction Engine - Part #4. How to make a Burner Tray for the Traction Engine which should be suitable for the new Alcohol Gel Fuel. I used a Brass block and a freehand Milling method to shape it and cut out the recess to hold the fuel. The handle is made from a small Stuart Steam Engine stud. / keithappleton

Hey Keith, just as an Idea, build a mounting for the nose of the vacuum cleaner, so the swarf is cleaned up

Your slot drill is also called a 2-flute end mill. Same difference. Also, if you watch machinist videos, like I do, you will find that "Climb milling", or going the "wrong way" whilst milling, is OK, provided you are careful and reduce the travel speed. You, being a sensible person when it comes to machining, should have no trouble, as you know how to do it. Nice job, btw!!

Very nice job freehanding your burner tray. Looks awesome. By the way, I have all those symptoms you described, but I don’t take any drugs or drink. I chalked it up to old brain a few years back. I like my brain this way as I find I’m a better machinist now than… …what was I saying? Oh well, I forgot. Something about vacuuming I think… You also stay very safe and extremely healthy!

Keith, have you ever considered making something to catch your parted off parts in? If you take a "Laundry" bleach bottle. with a handle and make it look like a scoop, bingo, parts catcher. I am concerned about you having memory problems. What you have been describing could be much more serious than you seem to believe. Please "stay healthy and I hope YOU found this useful".;-)

Sir, apologies for egg sucking lesson. Please be very careful with the firegel material. It will melt when hot turning into a boiling, all consuming fireball. Possibly worse than an open pool of meths on fire. Wet towels on standby. Or, provide a hinged cover of gauze held in a frame which seals against the top of the fuel container, and a snuffer box. It is almost impossible to extinguish the flame, unlike a wick on a spirit burner, so it has to be let to burn out. I worry that a box with that amount of surface area will generate a massive flame consuming the gel very quickly whilst failing to boil even very hot water in the engine. I hope this reaches you before the tests.

I am not impressed with this Gel at all. I will make a Multi Wick Meths Burner }:-)))
