It's hard to believe that little boiler can put out so much steam! It would be able to power a boat and look good as well!

Great video. Hope the neighbors enjoy your steaming as much as we do. Ever thought of building some sort of dynomometer for these sorts of runs? Always wished I had a boat somewhat like the 'African Queen', powered by steam. But I'd never kick the boiler like Bogart did in the movie. lol

On ocean going ships it takes 24 hours to raise steam from a cold boiler.

Is it feasible to fit a condenser on the cylinder exhaust and feed that back to the boiler? I imagine on a boat clean water recovery could be important. Thanks for the awesome videos!

not really worth it is these small scales as it is difficult to separate the oil from the condensate.

Keith, I was talking to a chap from Auckland, New Zealand who has one of these V.6 boilers on the way to him, he has ordered some Welsh Coal and Hallett oil from me. As it is a super steamer I was wondering what the ratio of heating surface to water volume is as there seem to be many tube. It appears to be almost flash steam by the rate it makes steam. It looks like to use Welsh Dry Steam Coal too? I really must get my 8" VFT boiler going but I would be tempted to get one of these too. Thanks.

That boiler would look great on a double out-rigger canoe & a pair of paddle wheels... Would also look great in the middle of a Cli-Shay! In fact, I cant think of a place it WOULDNT look good- except gathering dust on a shelf or at a scrap yard.... Bloody luvly boiler that! Do they now sell them with the extra's you had to make to finish it off??? That is the ash-pan e.t.c....

I fitted the pump & whistle - everything else is standard.

@@keithappleton Im sure I remember you making something to do with the ash-pan or base..... To insulate it from the base board maybe? And changed the gauge glass too I think... I remember it looking moew modern small industrial looking & you "fettled" it & now it's more a model/purposeful art.... Either way, bloody luvly' boiler that!

Castle Steam sent me a heat insulator which I fitted to the ashpan and now it doesn't set fire to the baseboard }:-)))
