I think Michael reached more demographic in various categories of age, sex, ethnicity, orientation, race, etc. If you look at a Taylor Swift concert it is mostly Caucasian women and girls. She is the it girl for that demographic like Britney Spears was before her and Madonna before her.

She had some complicated contract stuff, but basically, she didn't own the masters (the final version of the song that is sold and distributed), but is allowed to rerecord the albums after a certain amount of time. The point of the re-recordings was to make them as close to the original as possible. Kind of like a recipe. She's using all the same ingredients to try and create a very similar product to the first one.

Also its just I dont want to pay 50 bucks just to hear the same instrumentation over and over again despite if its Taylor's version. Idk I was listening to somebody else's rerecording album and that's not identical to past versions and oddly really good

​@@SMD24well the thing is, she’s a song writer, what she wanted to own were the songs she wrote when she was younger. Due to the fact that she writers all of her songs (either alone or with other writers) she had publishing rights over her music and could re record them. The point of them sounding the same or as close as possible to the originals is to devalue the originals, this way, since companies prefer to work with the artists since they'll keep making more art in the future, all the companies will ask for permission to use her versions. And therefore the owners of the og masters will not gain that much money from those originals. I get not wanting to spend money on them, that’s fine, Taylor herself has said that this was a very personal project for her and that she didn't expect people to care about it, she just wanted to own what she create and that she’s delighted that people actually took interest on it. Even the radios have told her that they'll exclusively play her versions as they come out. While other artists have done this in the past, Taylor has a really big and outspoken fandom that has brought even more attention to this issue, and has made a difference in the music industry. Latest example I can think of is Olivia rodrigo saying that thanks to what happened to Taylor she refused to sign the rights to her music away to her label as it's customary for new artists

@viridianajuarez8713 I finally understand what you're saying, and I see somewhat. I'm glad that Taylor is trying own her music and what she has created since she started singing. I guess the copycat company instrumentation threw me off cuz it made me think that Taylor wasn't owning anything even though its Taylors version. For me I wouldn't want to copycat I guess break the rules so that I could find myself and own kinda like Keith Urban approach possibly idk, sucks that alot of artists can't find themselves or experience fusing their favorite genres together instead being forced to jump into a genre becuz of money issues. Lol that's okay thanks for explaining this to me. I just hate there are rules everywhere from left and rights. Overall, I support what Taylor is doing I'm glad that she finally got the message out and letting other artist know to own their music. Genre&Songwriting wise I like Keith Urban the most he fused & experimented genres together by finding himself. I also like how his songwriting wasn't savage&revenge but I like happy music. Anyways I respect any artist but sad at the same time too
