By now we've all seen the viral video of the confrontation between Kelly Rowland and a security guard on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. While the internet has been speculating about what happened, Kelly herself told AP News that she was standing her ground due to some level of disrespect. While she didn't give details about the heated exchange, she did hint that it likely had to due with race and that she wasn't standing for it.

@@CONE57CONE57- The protocol is once you approach the steps, you have to ascend them and enter the building. Everyone has their time to shine while on the red carpet. Due to safety reasons, they need the guests to be more concentrated on safely climbing the steps due to the wearing of heels and long dresses, than calculating a last photo op, because the steps are also carpeted. And as the copycat mental shows; if one person does it and wows the media, then more people will try to repeat it, but with a little extra. A guests slips, falls, and get injured, the Cannes organization gets hit with the lawsuit, and becomes responsible for the medical bill, pain, suffering, and lost wages.

@@a_linext - Because she pulled the same stunt: Attempting to get a photo op on the stairway. It's has always been a safety issue. The stairway are carpeted. Attempting to turn around and pose, with a long dress, and heels is a serious fall risk. Their job is to get the guests safely into the building. It has never been about stopping people from getting their photo opportunity in; that is done on the red carpet which is on level ground.

That particular usher got into SEVERAL altercations with other celebrities that night, which tells me that SHE was the issue. This is a major L for the Cannes Film Festival. All she had to do was professionally inform Kelly and her team of whatever they needed her to do. This was unnecessary and uncalled for. Cannes always has issues. The turned an invited actor away for wearing moccasins, a piece of cultural attire. Cultural Attire is always allowed.
