Kelly Slater is back on Oahu and everyone is stoked to have him here. After his hip surgery, surf aficionados were all curious as to how the GOAT would handle the recovery. Well, after watching this video, you would probably never guess that he recently underwent a heavy medical procedure. Today he displayed some knife like carves, typical slater-esque aggresion, and superb wave selection. I don't think it's a stretch to say...Kelly Slater is back!

Really appreciate it! Yea this gen is 50/50 on the helmets, but the next gen is getting raised wearing helmets so it's likely we'll see an 'evolution' to a pipe lineup where everyone is wearing helmets in the future

When I ran into Slater at Neptunes Net in Ventura County, one of his ankles had collapsed from putting it through severe tension all of the time. I thought his days are numbered. He will suffer from arthritis when he gets older. Frontslider.

No, he was in good shape. He just puts so much pressure on his back foot that it is destroying his ankle.

Yeah so for the older ones amongst us the labrum type hip surgery is an easier version which heals much quicker. BUT it only suits those it suits. IF you need a full hip replacement forget about the labrum. Total hip replacement is a million light years away from labrum surgery. Yes those of you over 55 who have been having increasing issues with their butt cheek hollow hurting/aching, groin pain which you think is tendons and ligaments? Yes go and get a hip X-ray. Osteoarthritis. (This also applies to your knees and shoulders etc, and the sacroiliac in your lower back).

I asked the doctor if I’ll be able to air drop backdoor after I have this hip replacement... I was so stoked when he said “Yes”, Especially because I’ve never air dropped backdoor before.

Unfortunately this type of FIA surgery & labrum repair rarely works for just a couple years as the spine etc starts to go wonky.

Thoughts on Kelly...hmmm. saw the footage from Haleiwa, he doesn't look 100% and seems to be riding a longer board, definitely was at Backdoor. Kelly does Kelly things and it will be interesting to see, I would expect him to contend at Pipe just based on wave knowledge . Would love to see Seth take him out to be honest, or John for that matter. Also, is je getting an injury wildcard or able to qualify on the Woke Surg League system he helped design ?? J, you know I detest the WSL although its ehat we have to work with. On another note I'm finally getting my right hip replaced Friday, how is your back feeling ?!!🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

Oh really? I hope everything goes smooth. That guy from surf and show (that reviews boards) got a hip replacement and he's back in the water looking like new. The back is feeling a lot better thankfully. Hoping to do some trips to new surf destinations this year 🤙

OK. Labrum tear reconstruction, joint cleaned of debris ( bone fragments), hip ball resurfaced. Three months out.
