Avantasia albums are always telling a story, this album tells a story of a monster that woke up in the human world and explores human emotions. Geoff tate isn't in this song, but rather in the songs "Alchemy" and "Invincible". The video simply listed the majority of people featured on the record as a whole but each song features different people who play a character in the story (avantasia's first albums were literal metal operas written like theatrical plays and that "different singers play different characters" thing kind of became their trademark)
@Zabiru-
@Zabiru- 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the first two were even literally called The Metal Opera pt.1 and pt.2 So many good songs on those albums too. The Seven Angels, Sign of the Cross, Neverland, The Looking Glass, Chalice of Agony.. there's more but I can't be bothered to actually bring up the albums atm to check hehe :) Edit: Spellcheck and clarification

Was lucky enough to see Avantasia in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 2nights ago,hadn’t really heard much about them but had to go when I found out Geoff Tate was involved with the tour and WOW what a show unbelievable,my wife was lucky enough to do a phone interview with Geoff Tate 2 weeks earlier about the tour,we’re both huge Queensryche fans since the 80’s and now new Avantasia fans .

Your motivation for your channel inspires me. I have a young son and daughter, and I hope one day they will love music and playing as much as I do. I just saw Avantasia last night in San Jose CA with my wife. While it was a very poorly attended show, it was definitely the most fun I've had at a concert. Tons of singers on stage rotating in and out. Eric Martin was my favorite. The wall of chorus they put out was tremendous. I'm blown away by the combined years of experience that all those musicians put on display. Oh, this song and Let the Storm are my favorite songs.

Like Nightwish, Avantasia releases great symphonic power metal, but whereas Nightwish is a band, Avantasia is more like a project of Tobias Sammet with many guest vocalists. In this Tobias had Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) and Jorn Lande (Masterplan, Jorn) in vocals also.

Inspiration for the album title came from Sammet's fascination for the Moon. The story follows a nocturnal creature struggling to cope with the reality of boldness and beauty and ends up resorting to the darkness of the moonglow to hide itself from the world.[9] Lyrics deal with themes such as adjustment and non-adjustment, expectations, convictions and feeling out of place and fall within the Victorian gothic and dark romanticism genres.[9]

After the success of Ayreon , Tobias Sammet from Edguy seemed to have taken that idea and ran with it to create his own rock operas, in a more power metal style than the more prog (metal) style of Ayreon, even though they use many of the same artists. I love them both.
@TheBaertierchen
@TheBaertierchen 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if i agree on the "after the success". The first Avantasia album was released 2001 so yes Ayreon had several albums by then but it's (Avantasia) concept is said to date back to 1998/99 which is only 3-4 years after the first Ayreon album from 1995. Inspired by Ayreon? (Most) probably yes, but also (most) probably not by the success as both artists where at the beginning stage of those two "music projects" at that time. That they share many artists is not really that surprising considering that today's european prog/power metal was formed during the 80s/90s and they all know each other and their music styles/capabilities.

Tobias Sammet himself said, that the story of Moonglow is about this creature, who doesn't find happiness in the light, although he is being told to take that route. So he chooses the darkness where he belongs (as seen on the album cover.) You should also check out Edguy - Tobias Sammet's original band. In the early 2000s, they were considered the next Iron Maiden, but they never took off like they were destined to do, sadly. Classic power metal with a heavy touch. #Edguy The Piper Never Dies, Copenhagen Denmark

Edguy was killing it since 1995, not the early 2000's. They did take off, well before the time you note. 2004 was their pinnacle. Sounds like you haven't heard any of their early work. You should check it out. It's so much better than Rocket Ride and the stuff that came after. The height of Toby's vocals were on the Metal Opera albums 2001, 2002, and Mandrake under Edguy, capped off with Hellfire Club by Edguy in 2004.
@MichaelHolmgaard
@MichaelHolmgaard 5 жыл бұрын
@@adameves5970 I know their early work all the way back to Savage Poetry, and yes they were great in the 90s. However, they did't catch fire until Mandrake came out, and they played the "Burning Down The Opera" live album. They hit it big, but never as big as people were talking about back then. They gave their all with Hellfire Club, but even then, they didn't get a commercial break. Edguy headline festivals, and have a huge legacy, but Tobi kinda left Edguy behind fot Avantasia, as Edguy was always an "almost there" kind of band. They should've been much bigger...
@adameves5970

@@MichaelHolmgaard Maybe not in America... They're huge in Europe and the Japanese love everyone, lol. They're a bigger band than you probably realize.
@MichaelHolmgaard
@MichaelHolmgaard 5 жыл бұрын
@@adameves5970 Im from Europe, and have seen them several times. I know how big they are, and they should've been biggwr than that. In their own shows, they headline 2-4 thousand capacity venues on average, and that is not enough compared to how much buzz there was around them back in the day. They were one of those bands that were supposed to be the next big thing in metal, and they never reached that level. That's why Tobi has focused more on Avantasia for the past ten years, as they have a broughter commecial success compared to Edguy (although I personally think that Edguy, overall, is better)
@adameves5970
@adameves5970 5 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelHolmgaard Avantasia didn't start off with the commercial sound they evolved into. He originally started Avantasia due to how much music he was able to write, and not having enough of an outlet for all the content he was creating. The first two (Metal Operas) were definitely not written with the intent of a commercial venture. It was simply an outlet for his overflowing creativity. Compare the Edguy albums that were out at the time he wrote the first Metal Opera...Edguy was way more of a commercial sound. Mandrake vs Metal Opera Part 1, Mandrake is the more commercial of the two, coming out at basically the same time.

Even though most of my favorite Avantasia songs are the 9-13 minute ones they still have great shorter tracks as well. I have a special love for Mystery of a blood-red rose. Kind of masochistic since I was going through the worst break up of my life when I got into that song and album, and that song symbolized the melancholy and sadness I was going through, but it's never the less a great song from a great album (Ghostlights).

"Like a raven child You spread your paltry wings and throw Yourself into the wind to escape from all below That despised the raven child" How do you deal with total utter rejection? As a child? Whats left but reject everything and everybody in turn? Becoming a "raven child". Survival by escaping but that means a dark and lonely path (In quest for light but it was the dark that embraced the raven child). Loneliness, darkness, but surviving. Inside very much alive. (You ride away on the inmost light , Your soul glowing opal-blue). The final inner struggle to bring this into harmony. Uncloak the raven master - understanding, insight. Light begins to show through the cracks. First reaction is fear (look away , It's gonna blind you). Wanting to return to the survival state (Darkness let me in). Here the song leaves it hanging. You can go back to earlier parts and see how it fills in the gaps of living as a "raven child". Survival by turning inwards, flying on dreams and imagination. Outside? Just swaying in the wind. But the cracks can't be closed again. Can't undo the light of understanding. Still fearful and hesitant. A new world awaits the Raven Child.

Geoff Tate is not in this specific song #Avantasia has loads of great songs. Ghost in the Moon, Book Of Shallow or Invincible and Alchemy from their latest album. Also the title track Moonglow is great, but a rather balladesque spng. Lucifer, Mystery Of a Blood Red Rose, Let The Storm Decent upon You from the previous album... The Scarecrow, When Clock Hands Freeze, Black Orchid, Reach Out For The Light,... Etc etc etc Tobias Sammet is the mastermind behind Avantasia and Edguy, he writes amazing song in general. Avantasia brings most songs with addition singers. Edguy is only Him, Tobias, and the band. I especially love the album Mandrake from #Edguy. Tears Of A Mandrake, All The Clowns, The Pharaoh, etc... I couldn't spot any all too weak song on that album. But that's Power Etal, not symphonic. I guess Tobias Sammet alternates between those bands to assure keeping creative and avoiding to become too repetitive 😁

From Wikipedia: "Inspiration for the album title came from Sammet's fascination for the Moon. The story follows a nocturnal creature struggling to cope with the reality of boldness and beauty and ends up resorting to the darkness of the moonglow to hide itself from the world.[9] Lyrics deal with themes such as adjustment and non-adjustment, expectations, convictions and feeling out of place and fall within the Victorian gothic and dark romanticism genres" Interveiw with Tobias about the album: www.blabbermouth.net/news/avantasias-tobias-sammet-says-making-moonglow-was-more-therapy-than-any-album-ive-ever-done-before/ Great song to introduce you to the world of Avantasia.

Avantasia is a "metal opera". The project invites many musicians from several bands, mostly power metal bands, but not exclusively. The albuns typically tell a story and each singer plays a character.

One more time for good measure: #Anathema - Internal Landscapes. Dallas, Texas USA. It was inspired by a man telling the story of his near-death experience. Truly, truly gorgeous. Utterly mesmerizing stuff. Atmospheric, melancholy-yet-uplifting work by a band who, once you hear this song, you are definitely going to want to hear more. As music goes, this is the pinnacle of human creation. At this level, there isn't anything better. There is only different.

#Avantasia - The Scarecrow - Greetings from Sweden! The live version from The Flying Opera tour (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grqpq9GGv7OlYZ8.html) is the prefered one. Here both Tobias Sammet and Jorn Lande really shine with their performance, especially Jorn who is one of my favorite singers.

Hi this is my actual favourite "band", I say this way cause they are like a supergroup. In every album Tobias Sammet invites some guests vocalists to sing, and each song is different. Each album is like a different "Metal Opera", which a different story. And each song is like a different poem relating to it. The album is Victorian inspired, and talk about a creature, an homunculus, which looks at a beatiful world, but he discovers he doesnt fit there, so he turns into the dark to protect himself from the reality, something like that. Each song in the album is like a different episode or thought about that creature's mind, which is also reminiscent about Tobias Sammet thinking and feelings, which indeed identifies himself with the creature. They are amazing, I watched them live this tour, its more than 3 hours show, something like 8 different singers, each one representing a character, alternating vocals and choruses, etc. Its the best show I have ever watched in my entire live (and I'm 42 so its not easy task). If someone is thinking about going to a concert, I recommend to do it, you will no regret it, I'm pretty sure. Cheers and glad you guys enjoyed it.

The Album Moonglow that this song "The Raven Child" comes from follows a creature of the night that dreams of being loved and seeing a bright world in front of him, but after waking up, it realizes that it would rather run from the bright new world and instead bask in the "Moonglow"

Well done for trying Avantasia. They are a supergroup, lead by Tobias Sammet who write all the lyrics and music. He, himself is the lead singer of a german metal band called Edguy. Listening to the scarecrow is a must. May I also recommend a band called "No hot ashes" and their song "Glow". This is a bit lighter rock but still great and boy what a voice the guy has. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htuXjL1-qciYeWw.html

#OrphanedLand All is One. Great middle-eastern metal group. Be sure you get the English version, the official video which I think is awesome with the imagery that complement the meaning of the song, it will probably distract you. A lyrics video is probably best but you can do both lol They also did Like Orpheus with Hansi from Blind Guardian, it is nice to check out that one as well. Speaking of that, can you also do #BlindGuardian Into the Storm. Cheers from Argentina

as always i would say its best to hear one or two songs from album 1 and 2, cause its much clearer than to understands tobi sammet's ultra best of metal opera concept. Its like a living memory of many great (most eu) bands (blind guardian, gamma ray, halloween, edguy, Allen Russel and Lande and sharon den adel from Withintemptation, and so on...)

All though Geoff Tate is on the album.. He doesn't sing on this particular song On this album.. The three people that are singers that are singing on this track are Tobias Sammet, Hansi Kuisch & Jorn Lande. However Tobias does have a voice that is someone similar to Geoff Tate. It is different, the song on the album just take things on is called invincible. Geoff Tate and Tobias Sammet sing a duet.. I recommended again it I know that you both enjoy it either way peace and love everyone!!!
