I didn't intend to watch all these segments of the show, but I'm so glad I did. There is just something so fulfilling about discovering your family line and where you come from. I really can't adequately explain why it is so fascinating.

I've never been bitten by the ancestry bug. But I felt obligated to keep bits of official papers, post cards, etc. Finally my cousin's daughter took up the task of assembling the information and I was happy to hand it off to her. I am sort of an outlier in the family, be also feeling no obligation to propegate. My father had 2 uncle's on his mother's side who never married & an aunt on his father's side. So I think I come by it naturally. We do not know very much about my mother's lineage either. I do have a bound folder of research my aunt did. But no one seems any more interested than I was.

This had to have been so redemptive for Kelsey! His early family research included great grandparents who were definitely not inspirational, but it ended with a very proud history of pioneers that settled in the West when it was very hard and dangerous to do so. Kelsey Grammar is pioneer stock! How inspirational!

I love that she let him do the work, she didn't just have the microfilm open for him. It makes the finding of the document so much more interesting.

This is what they do in the original U.K programme. Much better to do some of the work yourself rather than keep being handed a piece of paper with the information on. Although obviously the work has already been done by the archivists and historians.

I have really enjoyed this series. Both my husband and I are distantly related to Kelsey. It's great to see the documents/maps/journals shown to get a better sense of what the Dimmicks and so many others went through to get to Oregon!

Thank you for sharing! I live just minutes from your ancestors property in Monroe, Oregon, where the farm, Hurtgen-Vue Dairy is. I have driven by over the past 25 years, never realizing it was land owned by the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. While I'm not a native Oregonian (my husband and boys are!) I have always loved this beautiful area filled with wineries and gorgeous farms. I'll now be sure to point it out to my sons the next time I drive Highway 99, here in the Willamette Valley. ❤

The surname Dimmick was first found in Gloucestershire, UK where the village and parish of Dymock dates back to before the Norman Conquest. According to the Domesday Book, Dymock was held by King Edward at that time and was part of the Botloe hundred. It goes on to mention that King William held it in demesne for 4 years and after that, Earl William held it followed by his son Roger. It was sizable as there was land there for 41 ploughs and a priest held another 12 acres at the time. Today the village comprises over 7,000 acres. The name Dymock was possibly derived from the Celtic word "din" which meant "fort"

I knew someone of that name in Bracknell. Which means they hadn t travelled too far. I guess the Act of Enclosures in this country had a lot of people emigrating to find somewhere to live

My tree is Villemere which changes to Corbeau Then Corbett And the family shield is that of a raven We some how have a link to 1066 When William asked for help to gather forces My family And a few others gathered men as Most of the family then Lived in Normandy And area They were the "Norsemen" that invaded france And attacked Paris and failed And settled in Normandy However i can only confirm to 1622

Seems unbelievable that they have all these records and archives sorted out, referenced, digitized. All these people seem so knowledgable. I wonder if many other countries have such developed and well organized archives. Amazing if this is all real and true and Kelsey is just a great soul to bless our planet!

Recorded English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian history dates back to about 1300-1400s, fyi (unsure about germanic or slavic histories)

Fun to watch such shows and learn how the area you live in has such history. This area for Kelsey's relatives is a couple of miles north of Monroe, Oregon. Some of my pioneer relatives from the trail settled here, too.

I found about 600 years of my family I traveled the same route my grandfather done for WW2 From where he lived and i was born to the shore of Halifax harbor thru a tunnel walk way under the train he stepped off

Funny.. they were all in order on my you tube..Great show.. Always liked him a lot...reminds me of a very special person in my life. This was very touching... My family got as far as Mo. for 10 yrs.. Then back to NY...Fam to Calif. in the 50s...and 80s... Maybe was the land in the 1870s... Were farmers. So.. quite possibly...

Joseph Dimmick died in 1860 in Oregon. But Ellis Dimmick (the father to Kelsey's grandmother named Evangeline) was born 22 February 1879,. That means Mary F. Krichbaum from Ohio continued to have children after her husband Joseph Dimmick died. That means Ellis Dimmick is not the son of Joseph Dimmick. Was the reason Ellis Dimmick was such an angry alcoholic is because his true father also abandoned him? Did he leave Oregon because the people in the neighborhood bullied him because he was a born out of wedlock?

The imperialistic US government took it away from indigenous Americans who had occupied it for uncounted generations and gave it to his ancestor. What his ancestors did was remarkable. What the US did to the tribal occupants of the land is despicable..

how far back do you want to go , to find the natives / pioneers / settlers in any country? the great rift valley in africa at 4 million years bc ? humans have always expanded , migrated , settled on land .....if others were there , sometimes they took it from them, sometimes they moved on...who is to say what is right and what is wrong ?

Indigenous Peoples have been pushed and pushed almost out of extinction. I now live in the South where there was so much pushing of peoples - out to vine dry Oklahoma - where they could barely grow anything they were used to. But they eventually struck oil!!
