Just like to add to todays video that the net on our bales was an issue this year , we have an extra layer of net underneath the top roll of silage. So this would cause the silage to get held with the wrap. It doesn’t affect the bales but would leave these machines incapable of working correctly. I expect to see this problem on any other bale shear we demo. 👍

Great videos Adrian, this is interesting topic, my dad uses all bales and I’ve told him a bale shear grab would save him getting in and out with a Stanley knife. My dads cousin used one of these Keltecs and said it slower and using a Stanley knife. Everyone raves about a tanco one but I think the Cashels one with the vertical grabbing hooks just logically makes sense, especially with with the left over silage in the plastic, hope you get a tanco and cashel one

Hi Adrian, I've gone through the pro's and cons of all bale shears about 2 years ago before buying a shears myself. They're a great tool. Especially for splitting bales amongst small numbers of cattle, so as to use up bales quickly and keep silage fresh. They are also easier on a loader, your not trying to pull a bale apart with a grab, shaking the bushing out of the loader. For me the keltec is a bit heavy, very much suited to a big loader Q6 up or a JCB etc. Just on the net issue, normally you get net under the silage with most bales or balers, but if you try the bale film next year you won't have that problem. The film is much easier for the bale shear, no silage get caught up in it, like it does with the net and it all goes to the one pile no splitting plastic and net.. anyway best of luck finding the one for you. 😅
@IFarmWeFarm
@IFarmWeFarm Жыл бұрын
The net isn’t much of a problem to be honest, I’d pick that fault over rot anyway 😉. The fusions always make a good bale. I honestly don’t think anything will beat the splitter for our setup, might consider welding on euro brackets for the front. It’s great to try others out though just to see what’s out there

Looks like a great piece of kit and halfway through the video I was thinking, it's the perfect thing for putting bales into a diet feeder since it holds the plastic at the top and it would save the folk that feed that way a bunch of time. Because I guess they would have to drop it on the ground first to rake the plastic away if it's held at the bottom of the splitter

We have the dual purpose Tanco that will take the plastic off the bale's but also act like a normal sheer grab for pit silage. We've had it for years and it has worked a treat. We also don't make bale's with net. All our bale's are made using that newer white plastic instead. Much tidier then netting and easier to manage for the grab. When I'm feeding I never have to get out of the loader. Saves a boat load of time.

Hi Adrian. Watching you from outside Newry. We have had a Keltec bale shear since 2012. We feed over 300 bales some years. We also have a Tanco dual purpose shear that shears bales and cuts grabs of silage. Tanco machine was bought in 2014 to try to use 1 machine instead of both when filling diet feeder with a mix of pit and bale silage. Keltec is head and shoulders above the Tanco. Tanco is a brilliant shear grab in the silo but the plastic and net grabber isn't reliable when shearing bales especially in sticky or slightly damp bale silage. It simply doesn't grab enough material. I stopped using the Tanco over the diet feeder as it was dropping far too much plastic and net into the feeder. Good luck with your trials!

Looks to be useful and the amount of faff involved, probably is the same amount with any product. If I recall correctly, I think that with your McHale, you need to first get out and manually remove the wrap and net. You are going to need to get out of the tractor to appropriately dispose of the net and wrap anyway and collecting any silage left over can be done easily at that time and a good old fashioned pitchfork will be your friend. The Bale Shear and tractor will have done the heavy lifting so not so bad. Probably a lot less work than the traditional small bales. So, putting that into perspective, I think this piece of kit and similar is possibly as good as it is likely to get.

I had these in two different yards with tub feeders. They work well but they always hold onto a bit of silage which is messy. Plastic should be able to be dropped in heap for recycling. I don't like that machine to heavy and restricted view but as you said it would be idea for diet feeder, wouldn't like to see the old case trying to use that🤣 I think the tanco and cashels are far neater on the front of a tractor or mchale do one similar to your one on the back but it holds the plastic I think it's called Mchale rs4
