It's fun to watch someone who is an expert work and talk about something I know almost nothing about. The details of building profiles are mostly a mystery to me.

And right there is the secret. Michael knows what he sounds like live and loud through a PA, and how he sounds using his Ultimate Ears UE-7s. So when he Profiles an amp the Profile, the EQ, etc, is designed to sound best at loud volume through a PA...a loud PA enhances the high end so you'll notice Michael's Profiles never have a harsh high end...they're always smooth.

The reason for playing the same licks is to get the baseline. Of course it's boring. It's supposed to be. If anything sticks out as wonky, it's gotta be tweaked. It's much harder to fire from a rolling ship. I also loved my Mesa 90W (Celestion G12 K100 w/vented coil) in a Hughes & Kettner closed back 1x12 Thiele ported cab. I regret selling it.

Hi Michael. Are you using the Kemper Kabinet for referencing what your profiles sound like on that Kab? Or for any other reason?

@@davematthews7052 Let me first say Mr. Dave Matthews, I love your first three albums. Second, and I can not speak for Mike on this, but it was a way to monitor in the room at a comfortable volume. Being in the room with the actual 3rd Power mic’d cab was overwhelmingly loud, and harder to gauge objectively. In other words, it was like listening to the finished profile moving air at a lower volume in the “control room.” In order to profile this non-master volume amp, it had to be in its sweet spot, which was very loud. Hope I answered your question.

It makes sense to use the Kabinet to monitor a finished or prospective profile, as many of us use the Kabinet for monitor live. That being said I must say that although we share a name, I had it first and he is younger than I am and of course much richer. Lol! Thank you for a great video!
