It's not the baskets that need changing, it's the step putt, jump putts that need to be only allowed outside 66ft.

It was only briefly mentioned... But do we really want more layups?!? I certainly don't. They would have to move the pin positions from a lot of holes.

The thing that Ken and Brodie aren’t talking about with this is that Ball golf being on the ground eliminates the air/flying variable that is introduced in disc golf which basically makes the comparison not very useful; they’re just different sports. However, the concept of making putting more challenging is worth exploring … but it seems like that’s a course design issue Vs basket. Have more sloped greens, OB water behind, treed greens etc

I would like to see more variety for the baskets. Use a marksman for easy par 3s to make them a little harder. Allow baskets to have varying elevations, to a max, for example 1 foot to 5 feet from bottom of basket to ground. You could also have a height adjustable for the chain section of the basket as well. I could see someone creating a configurable basket design that allows you to change how many chains there are, how far each layer of chain is from the center and height adjustable. Having variation in basket catching capability is like having a different green in the "not as good version" of golf.

You have a group that approves disc for play. I think standardizing tee pad and basket design would go a long way. If they are approving the disc we play with , give them a little r&d and send over the top ten players in the world and a an engineer from Mvp, Innova , and Jonathan from Lat , lock them all in a room for a week and see what they come up with.

I also like the marksmen because i feel like for a putt to go in you need to hit the pole which harkens back to the original days of the sport.

As Simon said, pros are paid to perform not compete. It's a more exciting performance to watch players make 50' putts than it would be to watch them try to gently float in a 20' putt. Climo just doesn't like players today being considered better than him. Can see and hear it in a lot of what he says.

i think that rewarding accuracy has to be fundamental in all aspects of course design so that it doesn't become all about distance as modern courses are now doing and that baskets should not be made to catch any easier than they do now.
@87dsz

I agree, make it harder. Pull the chains in some and it will force them to make smarter "runs" and be more accurate. Take some of the luck out of the game and add more skill. Aces will become more scarce like golf but not a terrible thing. Touch is a good thing.

Well on the flip side, when the top guys can drain anything inside of 30’ it limits holes to having to either have a ridiculously tight gap or be insanely far to achieve score separation. And like Calvin said, it feels like the game is starting to err more towards power and away from touch. I would like to see smaller baskets. You shouldn’t be able to miss your line by 10% on a 300’ shot and still have a putt you consistently make.

Klimo actually has a great take. It puts more pressure on players and ads a finesse to the game that will end up making it closing to the difficulty of many other sports such as ball golf itself. If a pro Ball Golfer could hit a putt at full speed and never have to reduce the stroke power then the game wouldn’t have as much pressure, high stakes, and finesse.
@kylebraby2357

Seeing big putts is exciting. But the point here is will that excitement die as the baskets get bigger, target gets easier, more chains added, throw it fast and it will catch, etc…? That logic is true in other sports. Take baseball. Home runs are amazing and a crowd favorite! Doesn’t mean push the fences into 200ft… more homers but that would be boring because it takes less skill- which is exactly the argument here.

Love the champ, but I don’t see what problem we are solving for here. To me Pro Disc Golf has never been more fun to watch in that a huge variety of players, young and old, are winning the big tournaments. It’s amazing to see this year’s winners from Matty O to Kyle Klein to Ricky W. Then, as an intermediate player, making putting harder sounds awful. It’s plenty hard enough as is. Touch and good approach shots are critical for me. Maybe this is really focused on just pro players? But honestly it just sounds like Ken misses the old days. 😅

The concept of changing the basket to make it more of a challenge for today's disc golfers is a video that is very similar to one that trash panda made a while back. They described in the video that the size of the basket now was made proportionally to the larger more freestyle discs that were used more readily back in the day. They made a basket using the same strategy, but with the proportions of today's golf discs. They tested it and it seemed to catch just fine. It is a really nice video, and everyone interested should check it out!! I think that would be a viable solution for this. Take care everyone!!

This is so foolish... half the people complain about "spitouts" and now, because Climo mentions how tough it was in the day, the talk might be of having baskets that require more "touch"... or basically, a basket more prone to spitouts. Look at every other Pro Sport... the rules have changed over time to mainly accomplish 2 things. One, Fair Play... Two, more interesting for the fans. Increasing spitouts by making a more flimsy basket would be a negative in both categories.

A tedious 25ft putt looks silly. If you get in the circle, thats our sports tap in. Ball golf putting is exciting because of the suspense....the anticipation of a slow moving ball heading toward a tiny target. You wont get that with a disc, except on those long circle 2 and out putts. Shrinking the basket does away with those, in a lot of situations.

May be for pros but trying to change baskets for every PDGA event is not going to happen. On top of that ratings will have to be determined off what kind of basket you play as well. Most courses are public courses they’re not going to have the funds to provide new baskets all across the state. Think about it, it’s not realistic to make these kinds of changes at today’s kind of game. I think most people come watch the pro player to see a 65’ putt not a 5 footer. It gets the crowd going and makes the game exciting. The holy shot from James was epic and drew more attention to disc golf. Wasn’t that the idea to have more players and grow the sport. You can’t do that with small baskets now can you.

I am not looking to pay 40+++ for a disc next year. The whole point about disc golf is it's cheap and courses are free and in local parks. I say stop growing the sport, there are enough 200' hyzer noobs at my course already.

Anyone winning or placing in events already has their bag set, and AM's in particular are just stocking store credits at this point because its the same shit, rehashed 8x a year with varients, stamps and colors. That train is eventually gonna crash because once you get good enough you stop buying plastic and then what, how are all these manufacturers, stores and clubs going to pull in dollars if that segment of the community is already set on plastic?

I would pay to see the Gannon Burrs and Big J's of disc golf actually use some touch with putting rather than stuffing it in the basket. 🤣 A single chain, shallower basket, more touch, and less whining about spit outs. That would be a good test of ones putting ability. Would these players then be just as good as putting?

Hes right. The fact that Distance means way more than anything else in the pro scene now is both disheartening and boring. It leads to crap open courses and honestly, its extremely boring to play that, and slightly less boring to watch. I have ZERO interest in the half the coursees on tour either watching or to play. But hey, follow that money guys, it wont happen. Too many conflicts of interest at the highest level of the PDGA to actually have a good change. Hopefully, Climo or Simon or another popular player can change up the way it is, because honestly were already on a downward swing from 2 or 3 years ago and unless another round of Covid happens, The membership numbers will keep decreasing because honestly, the PDGA hasn't done anything to boost membership at all, infact its a pretty valid arguement that they are doing all they can to actually make people NOT to join. Hoping Udisc scoring takes hold, because honestly the PDGA should be called out for a lack of confidence by the majority of the playerbase after all these bozo decisions they have made.

The world of professionals is dumb. At the point when money starts flowing into the sport, all kinds of changes start trying to improve the sport because they want more money, but they don't seem to realize that everything was fine before, so they start to ruin the product, the sport. You can see it now in disc golf too, wooded courses are changing to golf courses, which is why the courses are filled with ob lines and with mandos and now they are already thinking about changing the baskets because of the golf courses. lol.
