"巌流島の戦い / The Battle of Ganryu Island" This is the theme of parody skits, but it is a famous one-on-one battle that actually took place in 1612. Two master swordsmen, 佐々木 小次郎 / Kojiro Sasaki and 宮本 武蔵 / Musashi Miyamoto, fought on an uninhabited island in the Kanmon Straits in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, and Kojiro died in the duel. As it was a battle between two skilled swordsmen, it has been passed down to posterity, and in modern times it has been made into storytelling, plays, and movies. As it has been passed down for so long, fictional stories have been mixed in, and some untrue stories have spread, but it seems that this battle actually took place. Mr. Shimura plays the role of Kojiro Sasaki, who loses. As the two duelers face each other, Kojiro throws away the sheath that holds his Japanese sword, and Musashi warns him with the first words, "You will lose." This is a very famous scene in the duel. ✨ If Kojiro wins the duel, he will put his sword back in its sheath, but if he loses, he will never put it back in its sheath again. Musashi read Kojiro's mind and got lucky. It seems that the duel started from a fight between two disciples. There were schools of swordsmanship, and it was a time when swordsmanship was used as a military force, not as a sport as it is today. Therefore, it was the samurai's mindset to master excellent techniques in order to defeat his opponent, and it led to his reputation as a samurai. To become an instructor of a swordsmanship school, one needed to have very high skills, as well as pride and dignity. When Musashi decided to duel, he promised to use a wooden sword, and he really did fight with a wooden sword, defeating Kojiro, who fought with a Japanese sword. In the story, Miyamoto Musashi arrived at Ganryu Island by boat, so he fights holding the boat's wooden oar as a sword. It is not clear whether it was actually a "櫂 / kai" (oar), but there seems to be a description that it was a "木刀 / bokutou / wooden sword". And even now, on that deserted island, there is a bronze statue that recreates the scene of the duel between Sasaki Kojiro and Miyamoto Musashi. 🏝🗿🗽 In Japan, this is a famous duel episode that has been passed down for over 400 years. 😳😊 But if Kojiro had continued to make jokes like Mr. Shimura does in this parody skit, he might not have died. 😂 PS : This skit features two big names in the comedy world (Mr. Shimura Ken and Mr. Kitano Takeshi), but since these two have slightly different comedy techniques, it feels like a waste to have them work together, even though it is a dream collaboration. Both of them are smart and have the talent to be quick-witted, but they are too big names, and in this performance, both of them seem to be reserved around the other. I think it would have been more fun if they had performed separate comedies one by one. By the way, I like both Mr. Shimura Ken and Mr. Kitano Takeshi. When I was a new employee, my boss was a classmate of Mr. Takeshi, and when I heard that he would sometimes go drinking with Takeshi, I offered to go with him, whenever and wherever! That's how much I liked Mr. Takeshi Kitano. I was still a fresh new employee, so maybe my boss thought it was "childish nonsense." As expected, my wish never came true. 😅🤭🤫

Now I understand why opponent Ken Shimura hit him with an oar at the end of the video. 😂👍 Without knowing the background of this joke, it is simply impossible to understand it. It's a pity that your dream of having a drink with Takeshi Kitano never came true. 😅 I wouldn't mind having a drink with him either. 😉🤭🤫

There is an expression for over-the-shoulder shot, "KATA WO NAMERU", which is an expression for video shooting. The pronunciation of "lick" and "Naneru" are the same, The director says, "Over-the-shoulder shot," and Shimura Kenji misunderstands and says, "I licked his shoulder. By the way, both Beat Takeshi (Takeshi Kitano) as the director and Ken Shimura as Kojiro Sasaki are legends of Japanese comedians (Owarai Geinin) (^. ^) This scene is a parody of the famous scene of 〖Fight on Ganryu Island〗 between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro.

@@squeakychairchannel Mr. Takeshi Kitano debuted as a comedy duo performing at a theater in the downtown area, and then he started appearing on TV and became very popular. Not only Mr. Takeshi, but at that time there was an explosive comedy boom and there were many popular comedians, but Mr. Takeshi gained popularity with his unique character. When the comedy boom calmed down a bit, he went beyond comedy and started drawing pictures and writing novels and picture books. He first entered the world of film production as an actor, but then he wanted to make his own films, and his first film was "その男、凶暴につき / Violent Cop". When that film was made, it had been 17 years since his debut as a comedian. After that, Mr. Takeshi made one film after another, and won the grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival and other festivals, and his international reputation as a film director grew. However, personally, I have a strong image of him as the Kitano Takeshi of the comedy world. Alex, did you first know Mr. Takeshi as a film director? 🙄 In this video, Takeshi plays the role of a "film director." It's hard to imagine, but he is usually shy and quiet, and apparently he doesn't talk much even when he's a film director. When he appears in front of a TV camera, it seems like another person inside him emerges. 😂🤗 As the commenter said, Mr. Takeshi had many disciples, and they even had the name "たけし軍団 / Takeshi's corps". Among his disciples, I like "Mr. Duncan" and "Mr. Tsumami Edamame", and Mr. Duncan is the assistant director of this video, with Mr. Edamame visible in the distance. 😊👍🏻

I first became acquainted with Takeshi Kitano as an actor when I saw a film about a blind samurai. Later I saw many films with his participation, but I’m not sure that I watched the films that he directed as a director. 🤔 You said that Mr. Takeshi Kitano debuted as a comedy duo performing at a theater in the downtown area. It is amazing! I would really like to find and see these comedy videos of him. 😊
@DONPAN-YO
@DONPAN-YO 27 күн бұрын
@@squeakychairchannel Just the words "blind samurai" that you replied to me reminded me of the movie title "座頭市 / Zatoichi". Japan had a "samurai culture" until about 150 years ago, so there are famous samurai (heroes) that every Japanese person knows. Some of them were real people, and some were fictional. Zatoichi is a hero directly created by a novel, but the person he was modeled after was a real person. In the novel, his public occupation was "massage therapist👨🏻‍⚕" and his secret occupation was "assassin☠". Because he was blind, he was sensitive to other people's prejudices, love, and even right and wrong, and he is a person who lives his life trying to make the world right in his own way. Zatoichi is a protagonist who has been made into a TV drama and a movie many times since it was written as a novel. The movie "Zatoichi" released in 2003 was directed and written by Mr. Takeshi, and he himself played the lead role, right? 🤗👍🏻 And the last scene had an unusual development, with the actor doing a spectacular tap dance, which was a bizarre story. 🕺🏻🕺🏻 🤯 Mr. Takeshi's everyday personality may be similar to that of Zatoichi, who is silent and has a dark side. When he is a comedian, he is like Takeshi dancing tap dance, and he seems to like to make everyone happy by fully utilizing his talents. One of the representative TV programs where Takeshi was active as a comedian is "俺たち、ひょうきん族 / Oretachi, Hyokinzoku / We are the farceurs (comicalities)". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdCUp9qIrdKnenk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lc2jeM5lyNDMnKs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brN6dbif1NDcm6s.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sKyZlZimstG8enU.html I will introduce the video for reference, but it is very old and contains a lot of sarcasm and practical jokes, so it may be difficult to understand or enjoy if you do not understand Japanese. 🙇 😅 There are several corners in the hour-long program, and one of them is "タケチャンマン / Take-chan Man." Mr. Takeshi plays the hero and Mr. Sanma plays the villain. I have divided them into villains and heroes, but Take-chan Man is a character who does not help crying children, but makes them cry even more. Mr. Sanma, the villain, pretends to be bad, but in fact he is a kind-hearted villain with a good personality. There are many contradictions, sarcasm, and unreasonable practical jokes like these, but he was extremely popular at the time. 😂🤭 There is a military tale called "平家物語 / The Tale of the Heike" written around 1240 AD. At the beginning of the story, there is a passage that goes like this: 『祇園精舎の鐘の声、諸行無常の響きあり。沙羅双樹の花の色、盛者必衰の理をあらはす。奢れる人も久からず、ただ春の夜の夢のごとし。猛き者も遂にはほろびぬ、偏ひとへに風の前の塵におなじ。』 English Literal Translation : "The sound of the bell at Gion-shoja Temple echoes the impermanence of all things. The color of the flowers of the Shal tree reveals the truth that all things rise and fall. The proud man does not last long, just like a dream on a spring night. The fierce man also eventually perishes, just like dust before the wind." The phrase "盛者必衰の理をあらはす / Syosya-hissui no Kotowari wo Arawasu" has been stuck in my head ever since I learned it in junior high school. For better or worse, I think this phrase is a lesson in life (the world). The meaning of this phrase is "The truth of the world is that all things that are powerful and prosperous will decline and perish." As you may know, for 16 years from 1969 to 1985, the Drifters' "8時だよ、全員集合!/ It's 8 o'clock, All Together" was the show that dominated Japan on Saturdays at 8 PM. It is said that the show that ended this giant was "俺たち、ひょうきん族 / Oretachi, Hyokinzoku," which began airing at the same time in 1981. I don't know how the young, new comedians felt about the fact that the "Oretachi, Hyokinzoku" members were said to have "driven the final wedge into the Drifters". Did they feel guilty or sad? However, the phrase "盛者必衰の理をあらはす / The law of all things must fall" comes to mind and won't let me down. 🤔😐 PS-1 : I always tell you a lot of different stories, but I think it would be worth it to remember the opening passage of the Tale of the Heike. This passage contains sadness and pity that can bring tears to your eyes, but on the contrary, it sometimes makes me feel lighter. I don't have any faith or clear ideology, but I think this sentence is "a universal truth". 🤗🧐👍🏻 PS-2 : One of Mr. Takeshi's jokes (slogans) from shortly after his debut was "赤信号、みんなで渡れば、怖くない!/ If we all cross the red light together, it's not scary!" 🚥⛔🚶🏻🚶🏻‍♂🚶🏻‍♀🧑🏻‍🦽🏃🏻‍♂👭🏻🧑‍🤝‍🧑🚓 He always said a lot of sarcastic comments like that. However, I think he wasn't really telling people to do that, but was trying to ridicule the group mentality that is unique to the Japanese, and make them laugh. Naturally, he received criticism from some people at the time, but many people agreed with Mr. Takeshi, and he rose to the top of popularity. A few years ago, Mr. Takeshi was voted the number one person the general public wanted to become the prime minister of Japan. 😱😁👍🏻

Today is the day of the 七夕まつり / Tanabata festival in Japan. 🎋🎋🎋💕 This celebration is derived from a legend, and it is said that only one day a year can the lovers Orihime👸 and Hikoboshi🤴🏻 meet across the Milky Way under the starry sky, and by celebrating this, people can make their dreams come true. Every year, around July 7th, Japan's rainy season does not end, and it is very rare for it to be sunny. However, today the sky is unusually clear, so you may be able to see the Milky Way at night. I hope that you can see a starry sky in Canada too... Look up at the night sky, and if you find a shooting star, try chanting your dreams and wishes. They may come true! 🤗 💫🌌🌃🎋✨
