As a reminder… Ashlee made Emmett that amazing dinner with a clean house, when she was only 6 weeks postpartum with her fifth baby, all because she sensed that HE might be struggling with something, setting every single need of her own aside just to show him she loved him. She was the perfect wife by every definition, and he threw it all away for nothing. So many cautionary tales in this tragedy.

One of the reasons why I cannot stand the Mormon faith, they train these women into bending over backwards for rotten men. Ashley should have bounced, or at least grabbed Emmett and made him talk to her instead of doing all of that work.

@xxwhispersxx exactly. Same with most Hispanic women, my mom was just like that, she kept crying and accepting my dad when she knew he cheated on her. I was like 7 yrs old and I told her that he didn't deserve her. Sadly she hasn't found the one yet. But I'm hopeful for her, she's beautiful, she's incredible and deserves the best💜 she had a partner and had a kid (my sister) with him, but they didn't work out together.

Honestly any sympathy I could have for Emmet flew out the window the moment he saw his devoted, loving wife cooked a huge dinner so they could have a good time together discussing how to fix their marriage and he couldn't be bothered to at least eat with her because all he had in mind was to go to Walgreens to meet that greasy mayonaise bag of a woman and get his jollies off with her. Too bad he died before seeing his mistress run towards her husband instead of him after the shooting, to see how much he actually meant to her

Ashley is absolutely gorgeous. Has 5 kids and still looks that amazing? She didn’t deserve any of this. She was there for him even when he didn’t deserve it and made that whole dinner, cleaned the house all to make him feel special because he was pulling away. She is so selfless and deserves nothing but the best. So happy she’s remarried with a huge family now. I hope she’s doing well and thriving.

I actually dealt with something similar. My boyfriend drowned in a freak accident in 2016 & right before his funeral I found out that he had been cheating on me. The grief is so chaotic when you’re both grieving the loss of who you thought was your life partner, but you’re also so hurt & betrayed. I’m so glad Ashley found love again & I pray he’s good to her. 🖤

Can't believe Rob was going to take his own life too. His teenage daughter probably would have blamed herself for the rest of her life because she was the one to make the call to Rob and told him the store her mother and Emmett were at. I feel bad for all of the kids in this situation.

Have to comment on the marriage counselling appointment that HE failed to attend. This happened to me, in desperation booked an appointment and when my (now ex!) husband didn't come I asked him why not. His response was that I should be booking appointments at the gym instead and then he might be impressed. I had recently had our fourth child ... I think I knew right there and then that we had no hope. (And I still haven't been to the gym.)

Speaking as a psychotherapist myself, he’s a disgrace to those of us who take the general welfare, dignity and emotional well-being of vulnerable people very seriously and our only interest is to assist them in reclaiming and healing their lives. Ethics mean nothing to this man, sadly. He’s only interested in ratings and dollar signs.

@@Charlie-bh3yk I'm in complete agreement here. Therapy of any form should not be displayed on TV. Giving a well rounded, professional opinion can take days, weeks, if not even months and months. I try my best to be the absolute most unbiased, caring clinician that I can be, and to see the mockery on TV striving to get nothing but views is such a gross misrepresentation of what we are. I can't imagine the amount of people that NEED therapy that never sought it out because of the way it's potrayed on Dr. Phil. Heartbreaking, really.

Although Emmett shouldn't have died, he was a terrible person. Him and Candy had hurt Ashley more ways than they will never realize. They were standing there waiting for their ride when they walked out of the bar. Out of nowhere, she rubbed her booty on his body part right out in the open. This story is heartbreaking and every time I hear it I have a surge of panic. I can’t even begin to imagine the betrayal and infuriating unfairness endured by Ashlee and her children. I’m glad she feels peace through her faith, and I love that she continues to advocate and support others with endless empathy.

Am I the only one who doesn't feel bad for the victim? I just feel bad for Ashlee and the children losing their father. But i couldn't help but think "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Emmett had a beautiful family and risked it all for what? Some woman who turned her back on him and ran back to her husband the minute things went south?? Im so happy to hear Ashlee and her family are thriving. Thats all i care about 💅🏾

Instead of focusing on Dr. P, I'll concur that Candy is a POS. She sided w/ her husband during the trial because she didn't have Emmett anymore. But what really sticks out to me is the embezzlement and lack of apology to Ashley. Candy is a selfish and disgusting excuse of a human being.

@@stephaniegilcher4577 normally I’m of the opinion that The Other Woman is disproportionately vilified but in this circumstance it’s simply not the case. She was cheating too. To have an affair with someone’s husband when his wife is pregnant and has young children with him is repulsive. Both Candy and Emmett were selfish and cruel. The fact she was more than delighted to see a lawyer with him to discuss Emmett divorcing his wife (leaving her to raise all those kids alone) is just bottom of the barrel low 😒 Emmett has responsibility for that too, but as a woman, I cannot understand how she can be so unbothered by how much devastating damage this would do to his wife and children. She’s fine - her kids are older. She isn’t going to be exhausted and struggling to cope. His poor wife is 😒 If I were Candy (which I would never ever be) I’d NEVER forgive myself. I’d beat myself up every day and I’d regret everything every minute. Candy doesn’t give a shit. No apology. No regrets except she can’t sail off into the sunset with her toy boy Emmett. She feels really hard done by, and clearly blames Ashley for her fantasy life being ruined. I feel absolutely no sympathy for Candy whatsoever and I hope everyone who comes into contact with her tells her how disgusting she is. She’s an embezzler as well as a cheater and selfish middle aged woman.

I worked with this woman's life insurance agent at the time this happened. I have never been happier to give someone a life insurance payout! I'm so glad her and her kiddos ended up alright and she is so strong!

My heart breaks for Ashley 💔 I recently found out my husband has been having an affair after he found out I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer, and I can tell you the pain is more unbearable than the cancer itself. It makes you feel unattractive, worthless, and not good enough 😔 I have 5 kids as well, so I truly feel for Ashley. I pray she & her kids are doing well today & have been able to find happiness through this tragedy.

I’m so sorry sweetie. I had thyroid cancer as well. It spread to my lymph nodes after so had to do treatment and surgery twice. I know how that feels, but can’t imagine the pain of what you experienced on top of that. I’m rooting for you so hard. Sending you love. ❤

If Candy wasn't already a piece of trash for cheating on her husband, and taking part in ruining a family, to come on Dr. Phil and not even act like she was sorry. I'm glad that Ashley has found love again and has moved on. She is clearly 1000% a better woman than Candy. This may sound harsh, but I'm guessing the "sorry" she hoped for from Emmett wasn't coming either. They had both cheated behind Ashley's back, planned on going to a divorce attorney without so much as a chance at repairing the marriage. He didn't even show up for marriage counseling. He may not have been like that when they met, but he sure started to act like a P.O.S. I'm sure if Emmett had lived, Candy and him would have rubbed their relationship in Ashley's face and flaunted themselves all over town and social media. These situations are just disgusting and I'm really sorry that Ashley had to deal with it at all.

I remember reading about this case back when it happened. Honestly, even now, I think Emmett was a major POS. He didn’t deserve to die, but I can’t bring myself to feel bad for any pain or fear he felt in his last few moments. I feel so much anger towards cheaters, especially when theres kids involved. The same goes for Kandi. She seems like a miserable human being and she deserves it. The only people I feel bad for are Ashlee and her kids, as well as Emmett’s family. I was so relieved to find out she remarried when I looked into her again last year. Her and her children deserve all the happiness and healing they can get.

As someone who had a spouse have a workplace affair, I can understand the rage that it can bring. Difference is I would never murder someone. The part that got me was when Ashlee had a pleasant night planned. The day I found out was after I felt great after building a dining room table we had just bought all by myself with our 3 kids all over me while he was at work. Set it up all nice and decorated with dinner for him to come home to all set up. All went to hell 5 minutes after he walked in.

Ashley is so strong. She had to deal with multiple types of grief... grief of her husband's death, grief of his infidelity, and grief for her kids losing their father. Then she had to suffer the embarrassment of people knowing her husband died cheating and fighting for another woman. I cannot imagine what this woman went through. And then to confront her husband's affair partner with such grace and articulation of her feelings....women like her are awe inspiring. I wish her a world of happiness and healing for her and her children.

I lived less than a minute away from this walgreens, across the street. It was my sisters birthday and we had the window open. i will never forget hearing those gunshots. My heart goes out to the TRUE victims in this case.

Affairs break my heart, especially when they result in a loss of life. Many affairs begin when people confide in outside individuals (that they are attracted to) about their relationship issues. This is very dangerous territory. My heart breaks for Ashley who did everything to fix a situation that was never her fault to begin with.

I regret watching the Dr. Phil clip. I feel pure rage watching candy talk to Ashlee the way she did and even just the way she talks about the situation in general. Ashlee deserves nothing but happiness.

I remember this case. I'm glad to see that Ashlee has been able to move forward, heal, and find love again. I can't believe so many people still have affairs, knowing that they often end in someone losing their life. It's $hitty enough to cheat on your spouse, and it's so not worth all the destruction that comes along with it.

What a beautiful person Ashlee is, inside and out. Heartbreaking to think what happened to Ashlee, their kids, and families due to other people's selfish actions and behaviors. He threw away his marriage, everything he had built with her and their family for someone who is absolutely worth nothing, just so sad and unfortunate. Ashlee deserved SO much better than what she went through, and thankfully she has only brought more beauty to the world with her acts of kindness, forgiveness, and inspiration.

i just wanna give Ashley a hug 🥺 she is such a strong woman and sounds like an incredible mother. I am so happy she has found a new partner, she really deserves to be happy.

I saw a story about this either on 48 hours or 20/20 or something like that and it was just heartbreaking to hear Ashley's telling of her side. The minute Candy opened her mouth, I couldn't stand her and knew she was a despicable person. You just get a cringy vibe off her. And yes, her retelling was definitely self serving! Glad to hear that Ashley has been able to move on with her life and added to her family.

Ashlee is my friend and she's doing amazing and has moved on with a loving husband and amazing kids! She's well moved past Candy and the whole mess that happened with Emmett.
