A First video on Training your kendo Kamae, Sharing with you some of the things that have help me improve my kamae, posture, and Kendo, I hope you enjoy. This is not your traditional kendo training but instead an approach to help you understand some of the posture details that could help you through your kendo practice, If you are starting to learn how to do kendo maybe this video would be a basic description of what you will need but seeking kendo instruction that is dedicated to you would be ideal.

Tai chi posture helped me with straightening my back without arching too far. Obviously the legs are a little different, but it teaches you how to elongate your spine properly while engaging the hips.

I discovered two things in terms of kamae. First of all I often forget to tense my core after (I know „after“ technically isn‘t correct, but I think you get what I want so say) kiai. Second relaxing my shoulders is something I have to focus activly on. Thirdly if I tense my core there is a disbalance. Every of this points breaks my posture. I think this is caused by a muscular disbalance. I have a much stronger lower back than my front core muscles. Also my back shoulder muscles aren‘t as strong as my front muscles. I even discover that my shoulders move forward when I sit somewhere and I have to actively pull them down and back. I know there are some people who say kendo and a regular workout don‘t match, because you might get bulkie in some way. In my opinion it is really important to do at least a little bit of workout to fix those disbalances, because you can‘t fix them while kendo practice and fixing them will automatically improve your posture, because your muscles simply do what they are supposed to do.
