You don’t have to make rap music 24/7 to be “in the culture”. Its not “hopping in and out of the culture” to be multi-faceted. How does Childish Gambino not have a connection to the culture because he doesn’t rap all the time?? Dude is literally from Atlanta 😂 there’s nothing wrong with him participating in other facets of his personality and creativity. That doesn’t make him any less black or less connected to typical black culture. The problem is that Elliott is conflating blackness with one particular type of behavior/personality and its just ignorant IMO.

Saying Donald isn't hip hop is like saying Andre 3stax ain't hip hop. Dre plays the flute now instead of rapping...Sometimes REAL artists explore different terrains outside of RAP music, but it doesn't negate their roots in the culture.

Elliott must smoking something family matters at 3, the record came and went, Carnival is top 3 this year, this is a record the industry didn't want to be number 1, it still went number 1. Elliott can't get off Drake's nuts

Y'all have to pick a side or a lie! 😂 How in 1 breath can you say Drake is the best rapper, emcee, lyricist, etc of "all time" yet also say this very same man lost a battle b/c he wasn't able to focus on his target. Drake literally released 🗣FOUR RECORDS!!! He only dissed other rappers on Family Matters. Drake, the best rapper, emcee, lyricist, blah blah blah had THREE other opportunities to demolish his opponent but he FAILED miserably. I cannot be the only 1 scratching my head at these "he couldn't focus" narratives as if the battle was 1v1 record. 😂

What they say in public is diff than what they say here. They think like you but have to bite their tongue and show grace to not lose all Drake fans.

@@CeeCeeMarie.Hmmmm I can see that but this narrative have been the same on other platforms. He dissed rappers on 1 song. Drake had all the opportunity in the world to go for Kendrick head before he even released Euphoria but he failed. So, everyone in general focusing on Family Matters is hilarious to me. Drake couldn't stand a chance. Every lyricist he battled he LOST so lyricist he is not. A good rapper? Yes.

@@user-pz4vb9cu8u I agree with you 100%. I don’t know if you have been listening to this podcast since the beginning, but Elliot used to be extremely biased towards Drake and DJ Hed was a biased towards Kendrick. But Hed admitted it because they are friends. Drake called Elliot a rat and now Elliot is leaning towards Kendrick more, but still has one nostril in Drake’s ass hoping he’ll come back around to him. And Hed is just being graceful (ala Ab Soul’s tweet about Drake’s redemption) because he stands behind Kendrick and views Drake as a pop artist not a rap artist. And being nice to Drake today does not change his stance that Kendrick is the better lyricist with the better disses. And I do remember him saying in the past that it was Drake‘s choice to not focus on Kendrick… and he had no choice because he didn’t have enough dirt on Kendrick to make an entire song out of him.

Elliott could stand to follow up his "that's just how I feel" opinions with actual arguments for why he feels that way about things. Even if it doesn't change anyone's mind, it would at least make the perspective seem less arbitrary. As it stands though, providing zero context as to why Donald Glover is allegedly "cosplaying" hip-hip, except repeating over and over that he just "feels that way", doesn't convince anyone who wasn't already predisposed to think so. Just because everyone's entitled to their subjective opinion doesn't mean anyone should entertain uninformed or unsubstantiated ones.

“Best year in Hip hop” Elliott Wilson is a hype beast. It’s not even about the music with this guy, it’s what is hot and popular.

Yup, he doesn't know to spot the new new...he rides the wave. He blew off Nelly (no Diddy) because he probably thought he was too country to be hip-hop, back in the day.

Also S/O to Danyel Smith, Elliott’s wife. It was INDEED a COURAGEOUS piece that she wrote for NY Times about Diddy and she definitely deserves her flowers for all that she has achieved in the industry as a writer and journalist. Her work for Vibe magazine was what made me that much more interesting in music and the industry as a whole. It’s really something to see her bravery and as a follower of hers for so long, it touches me & makes me proud that she has outlasted all of these shady characters that she has had to work with. Much love and blessings to @danamo always! 🙏🏾♥️

Mamacita is the one skip for Aquemini. Maybe it's the anxious feeling I have knowing SpottieOttie is next, or the obnoxious screaming of the hook, but for an album I've heard hundreds of times, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've listened to Mamacita.
