I used to live near here. Always felt a strange kind of a magic from this place. I used to stand in the areas surrounding it and feel an incredible surge of power. It's such a magical place. Helped me survive the darkest of times xx

The main aspect would be its water defences in the form of the mere. Whereas many castles were surrounded by a moat, this was a huge artificial lake (reservoir) surrounding it on the two flattest sides, and inspired others elsewhere (e.g. Bodliam). Then of course there's Robert Dudley and his massive upgrade of the castle for the Queen's visit - sadly for him, she refused to marry him (or anyone else - that would have entailed giving up the throne and letting hubby run the country as King!)

@@magnussankaran1097 Castles are cool. Much cooler than international relations although that is super interesting. The reformation is probably second up from castles. Can you tell I like history in general? Medieval history is best.

MrHushnow The millennium dome is used so no point taking it down. Still, its a real shame its ruined. Curses Cromwell! This is why we need the monarchy to stay!

4 years later it hasn't changed hahaha in fact just had a plane go over as have flight path over my house 😅. Cars aplenty still haha. Like someone said you barely notice it when u have lived here all your life lol

@@Katie-rx8ql im only 54 but ive seen it go down hill a lot lol. god knows what an agricultural worker from the 18th c would think of it now its been fully converted to an unsustainable car filled shithole totally divorced from reality like everywhere else. ive watched as little green places, that escaped previous rounds of development, filled in with houses. cancer sometimes goes into remission. but the industrial civ only goes in one direction. never does a housing development get turned into fields or woods. soon the leyes land and castle hall site (which was originally compulsory purchased from my grandparents in the 1960s, )will be gobbled up, converted to new breeding colony. that new school is hideously massive. i know its replacing 3 schools (the sites only going to fuel the more people fire though) , but wtf. its more appropriate for a city the size of birmingham. the whole of birmingham lol. if the morons at the healm get their way (if they indeed have a plan at all) kenilworth will soon just be part of the birmingham, coventy, leamington spa conurbation. sigh, its progress i suppose lol

Hey you might want to go back to Mr. Dan Snow and challenge John of Gaunt's work on this castle .. .. knowledgable sources tell me that King Henry V did most of that building and did ,, in-fact ,, make it his home.. .. Other monarchs would tell you that they did NOT spend much time there .. .. as it was a fort!!
