I've been messing with a bad ice maker for a year now. I was hesitant to try to replace it myself and a nine year old fridge isn't one worth putting a lot of repairman money into. I watched this video a few days ago and ordered a replacement ice maker. It is due in today. Thanks for a great video that makes the procedure very clear.

Same! I’m came across this video and I’m going to try it. I don’t want to be ripped off and this doesn’t look too difficult. My only challenge will be, my refrigerator is side by side so I don’t have a lot of space but it’s still worth a shot.

We have crappy well water with a lot if sediment, so have never hooked up the ice maker. Would like to remove it to grant more freezer space. Will leaving an unplugged ice maker affect the electronics of the refrigerant compressor function?

Is there a valve for the water inlet! Mine is not getting water in the ice maker but has water to it!

Can you take out the ice maker and leave it out if you don't want it. Do you need to get some sort of cover for the back to cover water hose/wires?

Hi George. I suppose you could take the ice maker out if you didn't want it. As far as I know, a cover for the back that covers the hose and wires doesn't exist, so you would probably be better off just leaving the ice maker in there. You could try tucking the wires away so they are not in your way, if you're intent on removing the ice maker. I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

hi, great video! i want to leave mine out for good for more freezer space. do i need to cover the electrical plug end and water plug with electrical tape and plug? i didn't know if i could leave that wire exposed in the freezer and then plug the fridge back in. thanks for any reply or help.

@@kerrielester1038 hi. I just covered the inside of the freezer hole with black electrical tape after taping the end of the cord and placing it back inside the hole. No problems. Works great and love the extra room.

About turning off the water source. I thought when you disconnected the plug from the back of the fridge that you did not need to do something with the water source. Are you saying I have to go outside where the water comes into the house and turn it off? I ask this because I've seen other DIY films about replacing the ice maker and there is no mention about turning off the water. Any help please. Thanks

Nah, just turn the shut off valve for the cold water off so it won't feed water up the tube when repairing.

My ice maker does not have a plug, the wires go through a grommet on the left wall of the fridge, it's a Kenmore 10659422800. How do I get this unit out to replace it?!

I woke up last with water all over the floor. The water was running continuously that fills the icemaker. Do I just need to replace the icemaker or is there another problem I need to look for?

Probably the drain hole is clogged.

@@ChuckDeFuque Someone else here said that they just tapped over it with electrical tape. I'm talking to an electrician on reddit right now and he says as long as there's a plug it should be fine if it's tied back. I've asked for clarification specifically if I do what I am proposing above would be safe and I'll let you know if I hear back. Thanks for getting back to me!
