My neighbor put his Kenmore 40272900 on the curb so I took it, the only thing wrong with it is the door boot is ripped at the bottom, they're about 50 bucks, I've never operated a front loader before I've always had top loading machines, I plugged it in and hooked the garden hose to the cold water inlet pressed start and it works great, it weighs a ton though, I'm going to replace the seal then either keep it or sell it, turns out they just wanted a new machine, they recently bought the house and I think it was already there.

I have that exact unit and im dealing with a leak. I bought mine used about 4 months ago from a lady that told me she wasnt able to handle the weight of wet clothes with her bad back and that was why she wanted to sell the set. She said they were only used for tops 2 years then they sat in storage since then. She said the washer had the smallest leak but it was next to nothing. I could see a water leak line on the paint and it was tiny so i thought maybe the ring needed cleaned and with her bad back she just didnt keep up with it and that very well might be the only issue causing that leak. I got it home and scrubbed it down literally with a toothbrush so believe me when i say i cleaned it. She had a dog and i did pull out a good bit of dog hair enough that i think that was her problem to start. For me it is leaking from underneath the unit and a good amount. Im almost thinking it's from sitting unused maybe it wore out the boot? Is it possible that sitting bone dry for 2 or 3 years would cause the rubber to dry rot?

It might have a tear in the bottom of the rubber boot.

Ill say this much when you pulled the rubber back and it had some pooled water in there ive never seen that with this one. But would that cause it to leak from underneath too or just from the door? Mine is leaking underneath.

My 2011 Kenmore Elite front loader is leaking water from the left side rear adjusting screw , where should I look for the leak ?

I did thanks but it doesnt say much about the settings, just basic operating and cleaning stuff. I was just trying to find out if it has a small load setting, doesnt look like it though.@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance

I tried cleaning the glass bowl, and it did not stop the leak. I had high hopes since there was grime on the underside, but no dice.

I wonder if the grey rubber door gasket is torn?

@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance It could have been. The water may have been leaking through the rubber boot and into the cavity of the machine, causing it to drain out the bottom. I actually sold the washer and dryer today, and I'm putting that money towards a new set.

Okay. One thing you pointed out are the drain holes in the gasket. You showed water in there so they are not draining, or draining completely. Ours is not draining at all, or very slowly. Other than removing the gasket, how does one clear those little drain holes?

Okay. Figured that I didn't have to connect anything when I replaced the boot so . . . Took a small bottle brush and swabbed out the drain holes. Also, a swamp cloth to clean behind the holes. Finished off. With hot water to rinse and we'll see how it does. Seemed to drain the hot water well enough.
